Go you are correct. That is the mind set we need to put forward. Lets get through this year. Then with the help of the new board members we can start early next year on the budget process. But I will tell you, yes there is probably some admin costs that are high, I do not believe the answer is to have less admins. I believe that is the reason our schools are so good and very safe. However, next budget it is time for the admin and teachers to take a little hit and help out. Remember, we still have to put back next year those items that were cut for the kids this year. My goal for next year is to have everything restored for the kids under a reasonable budget. That will mean the cuts or off-sets will need to come from the Admin, teachers and superintendent.
This budget needs to be passed, THIS BUDGET CAN NOT FAIL, or we will never recover.

Both Go's and Patriot,
All of you are speaking with a sense of spirit and passion and focus that will be oh so necessary over the next 6 weeks. Please continue bringing that message to the community.
Gopybl, you are to be commended for a very thoughtful, non-combative response to a somewhat "in your face" accusal.
Focus folks, focus......Facts, you were the one to bring forward this long term plan of C.P.R....It is actually do-able and has caught legs in the community. It could be your legacy, its do-able.
Please lets stay focused on what is do-able and then continue to do it well, as we have mostly done so far.
14 days!!!! 14 till the budget is adopted. We must take advantage now or be ready for the headline:
THE DEATH OF A SCHOOL DISTRICT
ITS ABOUT THE KIDS, ITS ABOUT CHANGE , ITS ABOUT TIME!!
C.P.R

You guys are amazing.
This thread is the reason why the Plainedgechat.com board was created.
It's been an interesting year and I'm glad to see people coming together for a common cause.
Keep the momentum going - Bravo!

Phil: Some of our contractual obligations require annual increases.....the teachers and Superintendent are two that immediately come to mind. I am not suggesting that we reduce the number of administrators (although that could be looked at more carefully), I am saying that it's time for the Administration portion of the budget to be reduced/tightened (in terms of dollars and cents). How much money was needed to save High School sports? How much money was allotted for UPPER administration raises and bonuses? Heartwrenching to know that the numbers are grossly similar, huh? As a business owner, I look at the numbers this way; Congratulations, all of the hard work that the sports students and parents did over the summer paid for those raises and bonuses....that hurts. The ONLY way the administration portion gets reduced is by the BOE members taking a hard stand on that line item.

Go, as you know the only thing certain in life are death, taxes, I work for a global organization and a few years back we needed to make cuts. The company did not want to cut heads so we went to our vendors who we had contracts with. In the spirit of a PARTNERSHIP those contracts were renegotiated. It wasn't easy, but when you looked at it everyone gained in the log run. We were afforded relief and the vendors although they took a small hit upfront, kept their customer.
This is exactly what Plainedge needs to do. Become a pioneer, become a leader for others to follow. We the residents are the employer, everyone else is our vendor. Everyone has a interest in seeing our school district succeed. All it takes is a a common goal......
