Last year we (the residents of Plainedge) were PROMISED by TOB representitives that THEY would communicate with us via mailings. I have not received one iota of mail regarding Packard/Picken from them at all. I have a vested interest in the goings on at Packard as I am a neighbor of that property. Where's the communication that was promised? It's sad that whatever info I get is from the web. What's this BS about lights being installed? We were PROMISED that no lights would be installed. Lights being installed will not fly with us in the neighborhood. Joe if you read this, I have to tell you that some of the LL parents are PIGS. They think the Packard property is their personal garbage dump. I've witnessed on many occasions parents leaving games tossing out McDonald bags, coffee cups, water bottles, etc... at the curb in front of Packard as well as in the parking lot. DISGRACEFULL! I've witnessed a girl from the varsity lacross team emptying the garbage contents of her SUV into the parking lot. All of whom I screamed at to pick their crap up. This behavior needs to be addressed by league, town and school reps. It will not be tolerated by Parkard neighbors. Lest I forget...Idaho avenue is not a fricking racetrack. There are many little kids living on the street and still idiots decide that the rules don't apply to them because they want to see their kids game and they're late. So they race down the street not caring about who they may run over so they can get to the field a whole 3 seconds sooner then they would driving normally. How would these people feel if I and my neighbors flew down their street in our cars and threw garbage on their lawns? Be courteous! Please! ****END RANT****

Sorry to mislead you about the lights at Packard - TOB verified that there will be no lights - that it was never even on the table. My post was just stating what Dr. R. said about it at the Public Works session - I do not believe that there is any real group lobbying for lights...
As for the rest of your post, you are quite right....

78,
You are correct. As a neighbor in the Packard area, you should not be subjected to littering and dangerous driving. My only correction is that in additional to PYBL many other organizations including school ball, PGSA, Red Devils Baseball, etc use that facility. You should not single out one organization.

78ptownpower,
I have to say that I share your sentiments regarding the fact that there are many people in this community who think nothing about littering nor pay much attention to it. My field crew spends 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday cleaning the fields....Gathering garbage.....and emptying garbage pails at 8 fields throughout this community. I can't tell you how many empty cases of Beer we gather up from these parks on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I will send a message out to all PYBL parents asking them to be mindful that we should be respectful of our neighbors.
I also wanted to point out that PYBL only has authorization to use the field on certain days. The field complex is shared by the Massapequa Marauders, Red Devil Baseball, N. Massapequa Red Devils, PGSA, PYBL, and many of the school teams. PYBL has a field crew that we send around to clean the fields on the weekend...Perhaps some of these organizations can pitch in and keep the area clean for everyone.
Regarding lights at Packard or any fields in this community.....PYBL has not requested and never will request lights at the Packard property nor any of the other fields in this community. PYBL is extremely sensitive to the privacy and noise issues that challenge our neighbors homes that surround the ball fields. Please be assured that I have seen the drawing of the complex and lights are not even part of the discussion.
Regarding the communication with the residents. It is the School Districts responsibility to communicate the particulars regarding this proposed transaction. The TOB Officials will attend the meetings and answer questions but these meetings are school run events. This is why many residents wanted to wait until after the budget vote to discuss the packard picken swap because it is an extremely important issue which deserves separate attention and communication.
In closing I will say this, if the transaction does happen and the TOB builds this multi million dollar complex.....You can be assured that the TOB will maintain the property alot better than our school district could or presently does. Thank you for bringing these issues to my attention. If you ever need to contact me just email me at joeips@optonline.net.
Sincerely, Joe Amalfitano

I didn't mean to single out any particular group. I know which groups use the fields and I wouldn't want a few bad apples within those groups to get grouped all together with those that are responsible people. I love having the fields where they are and I really can't wait to have a much better complex for our kids.

78ptownpower,
You are absolutely correct. I will say this....The renderings I have seen of the property are absolutely gorgeous. The landscaping and layout of the entire property is going to improve the aestetics of the neighborhood immensely. Thanks again for being a great neighbor.

For all those REALLY interested, the latest and greatest design is on display in the waiting room at the HS BOE wing.
As Ammo said, the picture is truly beautiful. It might give you a little piece of mind to pop in and take a look. I know if I lived next door I would be very interested. Hope this helps.

Question, I have not been able to find this answer on the sight. If TOB takes over Packard, I have heard that any organization within the town can use the fields. Does anyone know if the fields will be exclusive to Plainedge Sports and if not how will scheduling of these fields be dealt with. Why should we allow our neigbors in Bethpage and Farmingdale use these fields when we so deperately need the space. I apologize if this has been discussed to allready in this forum but I was at a PYBL game today and this point was brought up and was very concerning to alot of us. Thanks.

It was presented as Plainedge would have first rights to the fields and then IF there was remaining openings then other organizations could use. It would similar to the "scraps" some Plainedge teams get at John Burns and Allen Park. Time is only given to Plainedge at these parks only when Massapequa and Farmingdale don't need.
The town wants this deal bad and I am sure "rights" will be a big topic of conversation with the community as we get closer.
Just take the Spring Season as an example of how the full soccer /lax field would be used and filled.-
Saturdays - Currently the school boys Lax teams use the field until right around noon. Club Soccer then runs until dusk. On Sunday I'm sure club Lax would want at least half a day with the other half going to club soccer. When you work it out there wont be a lot of space for outsiders.

The town promised to communicate with the community because of the poor job the school district did distributing the information. Thus far, both entities have dropped the ball in these regards. IMO

Permits....trust me no outside organizations will be able to get time on these fields. PYBL and the other organizations have been trying to get time at Burns and Allen for years with little to NO success. I have been assured by the powers that be with TOB that we will be afforded that same courtesy.
78ptownpower, I agree with you regarding the school district....I disagree with you regarding the Town's communication. The TOB can not take a stance as someone trying to over promote this transfer. It is our districts responsibility to educate every school tax payer in this community regarding this recommended transaction. Unfortunately, Dr Richman has chosen not to promote this transfer at all. Wouldn't it be nice if the community had some input as to the look, design, and layout of the complex.....
The TOB should be attending the school district run information meetings and be there to answer questions. They should be there to convince us to do the transaction.....Even though I am in complete support of this transaction. I am sure Chris P'simer will do a much better job communicating with the community than Richman.

1plainedge...whatzamatta? no room for girls softball to get a slice of that weekend pie? Granted we do use Packard less than we do JHW, but we do still need weekend time on it, and we're only talking about the 1 field in the corner.
In regards to permits and usage, as per our provided permits, PGSA presently only has time on the one softball field at Packard (adjacent to Idaho avenue), for limited times on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons, for between 2 to 4 hours, and we do make a point to inform players and parents to do their best not leave trash behind.
As per empty beer cases left behind on Friday nights/Saturday mornings - only the 3rd and 4th grade PGSA players are scheduled to use the softball field during Friday nights so I am pretty sure its safe to say that they aren't the ones leaving them.

pgsa- dont get jumpy, i have daughters that play softball. I was only commenting on the full size football/soccer/lax field to make a point about not having much time for outsiders.
There are also 2 diamonds on the same property... i think they were 60's with turf.

Hopefully there will still be a 60 ft diamond after whatever plans they have get underway.
