Ed, I wish you were as exact in your " people messages" as you are in your financial ones.
You say "Away from this temporary insanity and the divisionary methods used by one person to control this District " who might that be?
"We can do it. I'm willing - are you? " Again, who are you addressing? Go, Wild, PYBL and myself are on the train, rolling down the tracts, heading to our destination ... May 16th 2006 and an approved budget.
My question is.....are you REALLY with us ?

Facts - I am standing up in my office right now clapping !!!! You are absolutely correct.....We need to set the new bench mark...Not just be satisfied with restoring only the programs we had in the past....
Devils - I agree with your sentiment that most of the BOE did respond to the Communities wants and desires. I also want to point out that if Ralph Raymond did not open the discussion again about saving the other Varsity Sports....many Seniors would have lost their last opportunity to be a Red Devil.
Patriot - You are abolsutely correct....This community is United....Now let's prove it on May 16th.
Those who were at the board meeting witnessed the beginning of C_P_R changing our BOE.....You had Raymond re-opening the discussions about Varsity....You had Presuto 2nd that Motion.....and who would have thought....the person to cast the deciding vote would have been Mrs Giardina. Every Varsity kid who regained their opportunity to play needs to thank her sincerely for making a very tough decision. I honestly thought she was gonna vote the other way.
I am a little concerned that Mr Pascarella almost killed those teams when he doesn't pay a nickle of taxes himself to our School District. But that is a completely separate issue.
It's about the kid's, It's about Change, It's about time.... Breathe New life into this Board....Give it More C_P_R

Go, couldn't agree more!!!
I think although the BOE meeting had some rocky times last night, the ending was great. That one vote from the board went a long way in healing this community.
It was important to hear from the kids so everyone could place a face with the cuts. I applaud ALL of the parents in the room for putting aside their agendas and coming together under a common goal.. to pass this budget, to save our district, to save our community and above all give every child we possibly could the ability to enjoy school regardless of the grade they are in.
The train is picking up speed... everyone join us !!!!

I read that MS baseball is not on the budget. What does that mean? Will there be any middle school sports or just Varsity are able to come back next year. Also, will there be a full time in each school or does the budget not allow for this? Thank you.

Oh my what typos! I apologize. My second question was about the school nurses in each school. Sorry!!!

There are school nurses in each school covered under the current budget. MS Baseball is out. JV & Varsity Baseball is in. Not happy with MS Baseball being out but I am realistic in knowing that we need to phase these programs back in so we have a budget the community would support. If we brought everything back in one shot we would have been looking at a 13.68% increase which the BOE felt the community would not support. PYBL will be starting a 13 & 14 year old spring league to accomodate these kids.
I hope this helps.

Dear moma !!!
Unfortunately MS baseball, wrestling, football and soccer did not make it back this year. The thought process was that there are outside leagues that those age groups can play for. I understand the disappointment if you have a MS child, but it is important for the returning seniors and the future HS students to have programs there so it can go on their college resume and possibly get scholarships. You would be surprised the amount of scholarships ( both in number and in money) Plainedge students get academically and through sports. There are 8 boys and I believe 6 girls playing Lacrosse at the college level on scholarships. 6 boys are right here on LI 3 at Molloy, 2 at NY Tech, 1 at Adelphi. And the is only Lacrosse!!!! Why because they are well rounded individuals.
As for the nurses, I'll need to check the paper work at home and get back to you.

Dear Go PYBL,
I take offense when you say I don't "pay a nickle of taxes to our School District." Sure I personally do not pay the school tax bill, but my family does. I pay the same state sales taxes you pay and pay my state income tax. This tax money we pay goes to the school district through the state budget as state aid. I also contribute my time to this district, which I love doing. While no one can equate a dollar value to my time and the other board members', like the Mastercard commercials, it's "Priceless." So to say that I do not "pay" into this school district is completely wrong and insulting. I hope I have explained and defended my position, and that see it from another perspective now.
Sincerely, Douglas J. Pascarella

GOOD FOR YOU DOUG P BOE!!!!
You are right in defending your position! It's not the name on the check that pays the taxes, it's a "Family" thing. If I'm wrong about this, 90% of the men in this community wouldn't have a say because the wives do most of the "Book-keeping". I would just like to see the same contempt from you when it comes to issues presented to the BOE from the Superintendent.
At least I now know that you have read some of the posts on this site. for this, Thank you. Please continue your stance and help CPR help us!

Douglas,
Don't be offended by factual information. The comment was meant to point out that unless you are personally pulling out of your pocket $7500 per year, you do not have the actual perception of what the dollar amount you are voting down represents. For instance, If you approved the budget at a 10.37 increase and I am paying $7500....You increased my tax allocation by $777.75 for the entire year. With the additional State Aid and the Fund Balance contribution my taxes would go up this year by about $219.75. I personally would have supported the entire amount to restore everything.
The item you voted down cost me as a tax payer about $13.50 for the entire year and would have disappointed close to 200 STUDENTS. That amounts to about $0.03 per day. You ran your campaign as someone who would represent the students interests and would provide the students a voice.....When you voted on that motion whose voice were you representing?
Unless you own a Home in this School District and have your life savings riding on someone elses decisions, you can't say you know what people are going through. You also can not say that since your family pays school taxes you know our pain. That being said, I would have preferred your parents to cast your vote. But I digress.
Doug, I apologize if I am getting aggressive with you. But I just want you to realize how important that vote was for our community. That room that night was completely divided and was starting to fight amongst ourselves....Because we have HUGE amounts of money at stake here. People's life savings are riding on these decisions. After the approval of the motion, you could sense that the community walked out of their UNITED.
Help us get this budget passed the first time. Help Ralph and Frank effect change in this community. Together we can take this district to new heights...Divided we are sure to FAIL.
So Doug....HELP US NOW !
