I need your help....
I received this email today that I thought important to share with everyone here. This is the challenge that I have been coming up against while speaking with my friends and neighbors and trying to "sell" them on passing this budget.....
-----Original Message----- From: deleted Sent: Saturday, May 06, 2006 4:53 PM Subject: Re: checking in
Hi;
I never imagined that there were that many people who would continue to salivate: "PULL THE YES LEVER! - PULL THE YES LEVER!" when they have no budget in hand! Just because they were TOLD what the budget is, doesn't mean I would trust the administration unless it's in writting.
Boy! - Would I like to sell them some retirement land in Iraq right about now!
And they ask others "NOT TO ROCK THE BOAT!"
The only boat rocking is being done by the Administration! It is the Administration, given a new contingency line for the budget, who by choice, "HURTS THE KIDS". It is the Administration that snubs the Law and doesn't put out the Budget in time. It is the Administration that breaks the Fair Practices Law and promotes "VOTE YES" and "DON'T HURT THE KIDS!" on school property.
It is the Administration who had $1.7 Million left in the check book after cutting $570,000 from the kids. It is the Administration that took $550,000 in bonuses and raises after cutting $570,000 from the Kids. It is the Administration who is hiding the plans to take another $600,000 in raises and bonuses this year. It is the Administration that said "To hell with what the public voted on in the 2004/5 Budget - We'll spend $620,000; even more than the first turned down Budget request!"
And someone wants to berate ME for not wanting to cast a blind vote YES for a non-existent Budget?
"DON'T ROCK THE BOAT" they say? Well I've got news for them - It is the Administration that has driven the Boat onto the ROCKS a long time ago! Plant a foot deep in their butt for that! And get off the backs of those that have more sense than to vote in the blind!
Sheeeeezzzz!

What kind of help do you want from us? I think the writer has valid points. The problem is that voting no will not solve the problems pointed out. I think that is the easiest way to convert anyone.
People need to understand that voting down a budget only hurts the kids. If the School Board is screwing up you need to vote out the school board.

prezz, You post in different areas regarding the election; and you bring back a post that is one year old. You seem to be looking for an online focus group that will allow you to become all things to all voters...are you running? Stand up and declare...or keep your counsel...but if runnning you are; then please be a homeowner...or please have a child enrolled in the schools and at the very least please bring the passion that those on the BOE bring(agree or disagree,it is a thankless job)....and please learn the 101 of email....once you push send it is out there forever...instead of trolling for what people want in a candidate state what you will bring, what your ideas are....and if you do decide to run and win a place on the BOE, please dont treat with contempt or derision(as has been sometimes the case in the past(?)) those in the community who continue to push for the best the community can provide....

Prezz...this thread is a year old and was made when things in the community were less stable.
We've come along way since that time.

You guys are incredibly paranoid. I am not now nor will I ever run for School Board. I came on because I have been reading for a while and wanted to say a few things and get a better feel for what’s going on. I am sorry if my questions offended you but at the same time I am not going to sit here and be attacked. So lets take this one post at a time…

Again I am not running. I don’t know why my presense immediately set certain people off and maybe others have used the site as a focus group in the past but that’s not my intent. So since you have no idea what your talking about I kindly ask you to keep your orders to yourself.
...but if runnning you are; then please be a homeowner...or please have a child enrolled in the schools and at the very least please bring the passion that those on the BOE bring(agree or disagree,it is a thankless job)
It is a thankless job but like you I appreciate there effort..
....and please learn the 101 of email....once you push send it is out there forever...
and that means what?
instead of trolling for what people want in a candidate state what you will bring, what your ideas are
I’m not trolling. I came here and asked some simple questions and you threw a hissyfit.
But wait there’s more…

I agree plainedge has come along way but I don’t think it has come as far as you think. There are still a lot of people who feel like the writer of that letter felt. There are a lot of people who feel that the budget is too big and that even when they have a copy of it in hand that they are not being told the whole story. I didn’t realize there was a time limit on discussion but I’m glad I spoke on it just the same.
A lot of people do not vote yes because they see it as a shot to Administrators or to the Board and don’t realize that it doesn’t help in the long run. I thought that topic was valid so I responded.

Prezz....first and foremost...WELCOME!
Around this time of year many are on edge. So sometime we all are guilty of shooting first then ask questions.
You're right. We have come a long way but have a long way to go. Unfortunately, there are some people that are the perpetual NO voters. I don't care if someone votes NO as long as they do it based on the public information. The ones that vote NO simply as a way of sending a message to the BOE are wrong.
Keep posting. More points of view are always welcome here. We are taking steps toward rebuilding and growing each year. We are all hopeful that a new Sup in place will help the journey immensely.

Good afternoon Prezz, another voice is always welcome...new perspectives always are... but a "hissyfit"?....I dont think so...you got challenged now get over it. As far as giving orders; do what ever it is you wish...but do get involved with the VOTE YES campaign. Within a short time volunteers will be needed for flyers, signs, all the activities a viable campaign relies on to get the vote out...the opportunity to become part of the solution will be readily available shortly. As far as paranoia goes goes .....just because you think their following you doesn't mean they aren't...the email issue might not have anything to do with you or it might (stick around long enough and I'm sure you'll find out)...you did avoid the homeowner or child in the school statement but thats ok...in fact if you are a student or recent grad your input is even more welcome...here is the forum; share your ideas ... but be prepared to defend them...we do get contentious on occasion but nobody takes it to heart...its just a good(or bad) arguement....welcome aboard!

To the Plainedge Community
On Wednesday April 11th at 7:30pm the community leaders of Plainedge are hosting a VOTE YES PUBLIC MEETING at Albany Ave Community Center. Everyone who would like to help us in our mission is welcome. We will need active, involved people to help us accomplish this great, but attainable goal. Please tell a friend or send a email to anyone who you think is willing to help us, the more the merrier!!! Make clear this is a VOTE YES MEETING and the topics of discussions will be centered around the passing of this years budget and the strategies that need to be put in place or continued to ensure its passage. We have one message and one mission to focus on and it is passing of this years budget THE FIRST TIME.
