A few districts replaced superintendents and reported lower compensation packages. In Plainedge, where an assistant superintendent, Christine P’Simer, will replace the outgoing superintendent, John A. Richman, next year, the salary and benefits package will drop 14 percent. She will make more than $245,000 in pay and benefits in her first year.
“We don’t think superintendents are paid too much,” said Patricia Zinke, the Plainedge board president. “The pool of experienced people is not big enough, and it’s a 24/7 job.”
Though I am glad that we reduced the salary of the position, I still don't believe the salary is justified.
For example.....
Vice President of US = $218K 1st year police officer = $45,000 Air Traffic Controller - $120K FBI Salary - $50k - $85K average

Hi GO,
Never said it wasn't a good salary. It is. Since many in the community point out how much higher we pay, I was just pointing out that it isn't the case. That's not to say that it isn't good. We are in the middle, and we get much better results than some paying much, much more. Within this market, that is "bang for the buck." Too bad we have to absorb more of the cost than do those inother communities.
As far as other salaries...this just goes to show "what the market will bear", supply and demand. For better or worse.
NYC police officers' salaries are a TRAVESTY!

Huge salaries, and yet every year we hear all the news stories about "such and such" adminsitrative member in "someplace" school district embezzling money out of said school. Guess "they" dont make the kinds of salaries ours do.
I have to ask, as someone who doesnt make anywhere near that kind of money and probably wont anytime soon, and still manage to pay my bills.....what is it that one does with 250K a year that cannot be done with say 150 or 175? except perhaps maybe not live quite as opulent and cook for myself more and eat out less.
Maybe its me and I have no idea what its like to have that kind of money, but at my level of living, there's nothing I can do with 100K that I couldnt do with 75K....now if I just had the 75K to begin with...
