Has anyone ever contacted New 12 LI? I don't have Cablevision so I don't know if they've been featured.
I think I will give them a call. The students and parents involved with the fund-raising deserve some well publicised recognition.

Yes, I myself have contacted News12, Newsday, and the Massapequa Post on numerous occasions.
They all are reluctant to follow through on stories. In emails sent to NEWSDAY, to the reporter who's name appeared on the article saying that we are raising the money for the Sports Programs, I asked for more coverage to help out the fund raising and never had a response.
Massapequa Post had information before the second Budget vote and did not print anything else either.
The only coverage that any Schools have had is to sensationalize what is going on in some districts and I guess our kids and taxes aren't worthy enough.
Roslyn had it's massive thefts, Hempstead had it's knock down fights,...etc... When the Major News Stations covered these incidents, then Newsday and News12 did also. With the scandals in Suffolk schools there is also VERY little coverage . I guess the tax situation on Long Island isn't "newsworthy"enough!
I for one will no longer buy NEWSDAY or watch NEWS12.

I just saw a report on News Channel 4 about rising school taxes and failing budgets. I believe they stated that 36% of the budgets on LONG ISLAND failed while only 2% statewide failed. The suggestion was to involve and educate the community in the budget planning process and inform them where the money is directed in order to help the budget pass. When the community understands where the money is going they will be more inclined to vote FOR the budget and NOT against it. The report showed the fundraising activities of the Plainedge parents and students at Pappalardo's.

The report showed the fundraising activities of the Plainedge parents and students at Pappalardo's. This is EXACTLY what we have been asking for and cannot get. Now with the new State forms for next year,(if they are used) we will understand better. New York State says that the budget is supposed to be available in a format that can be easily understood. What we seem to see is a budget of "Cuts" but not the whole thing. Again, with the technology that is available and is up and running, the budget should be available on the school's Web Site for anyone concerned to see. I realize that this will be hard for the Board and Mr. Richman since it has been said that as of now they do not have the personel to publish the "Bulletin Board" as they used to. Funny though,.. the "personel" was there to publish the time and date of last weeks meeting,(on that day) and was also there to shut down the "Community Forum", but also HAS NOT been there to publish the Minutes of the Board meetings since April 14th!! At the April 14th meeting they approved the Minutes from March 10, and March 15th, but nothing else since then. It seems to be very haphazard in the way the information is reported to the public. IMHO

How many of you know that the Library has been running without the taxpayer approved budget money passed on to the Library ever since July 1st?
The School District has refused to send the voter approved money that the law requires it to give to the Library for the past few months. The lawyers are handing this rhubarb.
The Library is using the up the money it set aside Boiler, Elevator and Building repairs to operate the Library. This money is about to run out.
The Board cries it's because of the "Contingency Budget" That Budget has nothing to do with it since the moneys come from the Capital Budget ~ which is not cut by Contingency! Typical B(oard)S(tuff)!

I just noticed this message poted on the website:
"Due to conflicts with a very busy fall calendar and the Jewish holidays, the first community coffee hour of the year will be held on NOVEMBER 14TH at Schwarting Elementary School beginning at 7:00 PM. The topic is "The Budget." There will be no formal presentation. In place of that, the evening will be devoted to a conversation among community members, board members and the central administration. The purpose is to hear the perspective of this year's budget defeat from all parties and to begin to formulate a plan for the next year. In addition, time will be set aside to discuss strategies for influencing the budget process on the State level. Please be sure to mark this date on your calendars now. If you would like to submit questions ahead of time, please e-mail John Richman, Superintendent of Schools, at jrichman@plainedgeschools.org. " read more...
If you go to the website home page and click on "read more", you'll find a link that will let you send the notice to a friend. How about we all do that and tell each friend to pass it on to other friends. Then people will have 6 weeks to formulate their questions or suggestions, and make arrangements to attend the coffee hour. (Get babysitters, leave work a little early, etc.)

Here is an interesting meeting for a few Plainedge residents, not all. If any of you have to work with Standard Forms in your business, especially with Standard Forms like FS10's from Government agencies these are for Schools, Libraries, Towns, etc. that get Government grants) - then you might be interested. There is a meeting next Friday night at the Howitt High School in Farmingdale (Just east of Main Street, between Hempstead Turnpike [Conklin] and Route 109) at 7pm. The meeting is in the Library (2nd floor) Here's a link to more meeting info from the Computer Group that is hosting the event; www.lipcug.org/Monthly%20Meeting.htm And here is a link to the Home page for the Group; www.lipcug.orgLook to their "PhotoShop SIG" meetings if you are into any photo work - amatuer or professional. It is the best free show in town on the topic - and meetings are held in the very comfortable Bethpage Library's Auditorium on the 2nd Wednesday of every month! Go to their Home page for details.

Has anyone seen the email going around about the party Friday night?
Mr. Richman and the Board are supposedly hosting a gala at The Manor East on Jerusalem Ave. in Massapequa Friday night. The email questions who is actually paying for this. If someone knows someone in The Manor East maybe we can find out what type of check the deposit was made on?
What will happen at the Board Meeting tonight? I'll be working and can't make it, that's why the Board meetings should be Web Cast. Or maybe I'll get to see it on the News!
