Dear friends and community members,
Hard to believe that it has been almost a year since our community accomplished the impossible by passing a 10.7 year over year school budget increase thus leaving austerity behind after just one year. Although many of our children's programs and activities have been restored, our recovery is not yet complete. As concerned parents, it is our intent to continue the restoration process until our kids are on par with those of the surrounding communities.
As many of you know, your involvement and assistance have set the course for this year's school budget and gave this community a major push towards attaining its goal. I thank all of you for the tremendous support as we fought so hard to bring additional programs back for our kids. Please read the list bellow, a clear indication of your direct involvement in the process:
Keeping winter track alive at the JV & Varsity level. This impacts about 140 children.
Rejecting the proposed elimination of competitive sports at the Middle School in favor of an Intramural/ Instructional program.
Reinstatement of all Middle School Competitive Sports to the pre-austerity level. (Soccer, Baseball, Football, Basketball, Wrestling etc.)
Reinstatement of the Enrichment Program (Known as Star) at the Elementary Schools level.
Reinstatement of the Debate Club at the High School level.
In an effort to keep our schools strong and maintain the value of our properties, I encourage you to get more involved as we begin our push for this year's school budget.
You may have seen that our support the budget signs are already up all over our neighborhood. A lot of work is still ahead to ensure that the proposed budget of 7.4, which includes so much more for our kids will pass with flying colors. Only our combined efforts would ensure our success.
I urge you to attend our Second VOTE YES COMMITTEE MEETING which will take place Wednesday April 25th, at 8:00pm @ N. Albany Ave Community Centre.
Please make every effort to join us for the sake of our kids, our schools and our community.
I hope to see many of you on Wednesday.
Joe Karam
