This information was relayed to me by a person on Dr. Richman's e-mail list (A list which I've submitted info to - but have yet to be entered on)
========================================
I received the following two emails from John Richman - please post to the website (I am not sure how to post):
#1
Legislator Dave Mejias will be holding a seminar on the ongoing assessment process in the Plainedge High School Auditorium on Thursday, January 26th at 7:00 PM. Also joining Mr. Mejias will be County Assessor Harvey Levinson and representatives of the Nassau County Board of Assessors to explain to residents how they can challenge the assessed value of their property. Other topics will include the method used in assessing property, how to compute property taxes, and the available tax exemptions.
#2
Residents are reminded to insert PLAINEDGE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, Code 501, in the appropriate space on their New York State income tax return. This assures that Plainedge will receive its fair share of state revenue.
Marking the Plainedge Tax Code Number is especially critical since many residents whose children attend our schools reside in North Massapequa, Massapequa, Bethpage, Farmingdale and Seaford.
New York State distributes financial aid to over 700 local school districts. A number of factors determine the amount of aid each district receives, and one of those factors is the amount of personal income reported on personal income tax forms (Form IT 200 and IT 201).
