Greetings all,
Just wanted to let all know that the PGSA will be holding their Opening Day Ceremony on Sunday April 1 from 12 to 4 at John H. West, and it is open to everyone. In addition to Team announcements, there's going to be music, festivities, Dollar day at the Concession stand, and if we can get it organized, perhaps a Managers/Coaches game.
We are doing this instead of the parade due to the minimal attendance we get for the parade and also because maybe it will break the legacy of historically bad weather that we've have on our opening days for the last 3 years. (If we do get rained out, the day will rescheduled for on or around June 23.)
We see this as not losing a parade, but joining a community, as everyone is welcome to attend not just our registered families - the day will open to all.
We hope to see you all there.

George,
This sounds like a great idea. Will all kids be announced including the seniors.

Sure if they show up.
Thats another reason...historically, very few seniors (if any at all) ever showed up for the parade because they only came when it was their time to play.
We're hoping that with a day of festivities and asking any of them if they want to volunteer to help at any of the events, that more will appear. (By the way, as an incentive, we have, and always will, recognize the efforts of any of the girls who assist the PGSA in any events such as this, and will be more than happy to provide any proof of community service commitment for any of their academic or extra-curricular qualifications, by letter of acknowledgement if they wish. they have but simply to ask)
I honestly dont know the schedule of events or how the afternoon will play out - naturally certain things (such as announcements) will move around the schedule until such time as we know that most of the people involved are present.
Obviously, we cant announce a team that isnt there - hopefully on a day such as this without a set schedule to prioritize anyone's appearance, more and more people who normally wouldnt show, will come this time and partake of the day with us, their friends, their team, their coaches, their families, their pets, and whoever else wants to come down and get out of the house for a hopefully pleasant afternoon.
Here's to hoping so, and hoping to see Plainedge come out in droves that day.
