As reported on News 12 - very upsetting to hear about. Also no mention on the district website to inform the community and state that they are working on the problem. Classmates accused of threatening Plainedge athletes (11/17/08) NORTH MASSAPEQUA - Players on the Plainedge High School football team say they’re getting death threats from their fellow students. Players say the threats against them have been made by phone, in person and by e-mail. The most recent threats were made Friday before the team’s playoff game at Hofstra University, parents say. Players say a group of about two dozen showed up uninvited to a victory party at a private home about two weeks ago and is now trying to start trouble with the team and parents. Police say they’re investigating a number of criminal mischief and minor assault incidents involving students. One case involves 16-year-old Plainedge student Ronald Martin who allegedly sent e-mails threatening football players. He is charged with four counts of aggravated harassment. His father tells News 12 Long Island the incident was a stupid mistake on his son’s part. The district superintendent says school officials are taking the matter very seriously and will continue to cooperate with Nassau police in their investigation.

There seems to always be a kind of secrecy about what really happens in our district when it comes to discipline. No district wants to "air its dirty laundry" but we need to know when something happens in one of the schools that might endanger all the students. If a problem breaks out in school between the football players and the others, innocent bystanders can be affected. I like Ciappa law that would inform school districts about drug info - would the school pass the info on to the

Sorry, got cut off: Would the district pass it on to the parents of students? My son says that there was something that went on during one the recent trips that envolved drugs. Was this reported at a board meeting? I go to all of them and have not heard anything. How many more kids do we have to mourn for until we get a clear idea of what is going on with fights, drugs and drinking? The website is seldom updated- the "mock election" took place a long time ago. Go Plainedge football- I hope the team can concentrate on the game.

I had just found out that there is going to be a Plainedge Community forum with the Nassau County DEA/DA and the YES Community Center to discuss the drug problems not only in Plainedge but all over Long Island. This meeting will take place in January ( I think either the 5th or the 13th) and it will take place in the MS, to accommodate both Middle School and High School parents. It should be very informative os PLEASE let your friends and all of your neighbors know. I am hopeful that this will be added to the Plainedge website as well as letters home to the High School/Middle School parents. The recent problem on the school trip was addressed at the last PTSA meeting two weeks ago. It is very sad that there are not more parents involved in getting to those meetings. Especially the PTA/PTSA meetings. I did not get to go to the last board meeting. There are a lot of issues going on in the neighborhood this year. We all need to come together to see what is going on here!
