So we have a Special Assistant for Community Relations, but can't get a memo about something as important as this sent home? How about a mass email blast from the school district instead of friends passing it on to friends? Seems like a failing grade for this position. I guess it's better than them keeping their head in the sand about the problem in the area.
Subject: IMPORTANT MEETING (PRIDE SURVEY RESULTS)
On Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 7:30 PM in the auditorium at the Plainedge Middle School, 200 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, Superintendent Chris P’Simer and members of the Plainedge administration will unveil the results of the Plainedge 2009 Pride Survey.
Schools have been using PRIDE Surveys since 1982 to gather data about alcohol, tobacco and drug use. Our survey was conducted in the spring of 2009 among the Plainedge elementary, middle and high schools (5th grade through 12th grade). Survey questions included: How old were you when you first used alcohol? Tobacco? Marijuana? Where and when do you use alcohol? Tobacco? Marijuana? Do your parents talk with you about the danger of tobacco, drugs and alcohol? Survey results are completely confidential and tabulated by an independent party, so students answered honestly. The results paint a picture that every parent should see. We hope you will join us for this informative and eye-opening session. Please note that this event is open to adults and parents only.
The District is planning future workshops for both parents and students to better understand the negative effects of drug and alcohol use in young people. The first of these is scheduled for March 17, with Dr. Stephen Dewey, an expert on the subject of how drug use affects the brain. Then, on April 27, noted chef and nutritionist Dr. Robert Dell’Amore will speak about the link between sharing meals with your children and the positive effects on their behavior and achievement. We hope your family will join us for these sessions as well.
If you have any questions, please call the District Office at (516) 992-7455.
