4 weeks to go until the vote-
This is OUR LOWEST BUDGET increase 12 years in spite of the strong head winds we were up against.
This budget should be worthy of everyone's support. If you look at where we started, to where we ended, it is obvious that every line item was scrutinized and extremely tough choices were made.

Agreed. This should have no problem passing.
Is it safe to assume that some of the money from the Packard sale was transferred into this budget?

I also agree that this budget looks "too good to be true." I only hope that Albany does it's fair share and does not cut back on what is expected. That is my only concern. All of these budgets are being voted on without a true idea of what the State will contribute. There should be no problem passing it as it looks right now. How much of the Packard money was used to keep it so low? It needs to be passed no matter what - I can only imagine what cuts would be made if it did not pass. I missed the final meeting: was the only sport cut golf? Were there any other cuts made at any other levels? Is the track refurbishment on a separate vote? It's a shame that the track was allowed to get to the condition it now is. I know that besides the track teams, many of my neighbors use it to keep ourselves in shape. I wanted to ask our AD whether he could spend more time on our athletic facilities (and maybe less time dancing!) Let's pass this budget!

The maximum increase on a contingency budget (if the proposed budget fails to pass) is greater than the current proposed budget.
If this budget fails, there should be nothing cut as it would give the district more money.

If the budget fails today, a contingency budget is NOT greater than the current proposed budget, it is approx. 2.5 MILLION LESS than the current 09-10 budget.

Since 1998, school districts operating under a contingency budget are subject to two caps. First, the overall increase in the total budget, with certain exclusions, is capped at the lesser of 120 percent multiplied by the average of the national consumer price indexes (CPI) determined by the U.S. Department of Labor for the 12 month period preceding January first of the current year or four percent. Second, the administrative component of the budget is capped at the lesser of (1) the percent of the administrative component to the total budget in the prior year’s budget, not including the capital component, or (2) the percent that the administrative component comprised in the last proposed defeated budget for the subsequent year, not including the capital component
If my math is correct that would put the contingency budget at approx 2.5%....someone please check me.
I believe the budget put up for vote was a 2.79% increase?

Hey everyone, Good job on passing the budget! I cannot believe the amount of built up anger that I just read about. Let's all not forget that when it comes to the previous Super, the board and the community must take responsibility for what he did and everything he received. I went to numberous board meetings and no one challenged him or the board members about his contract or about the contempt he had for the community. I do believe that he wanted the budget to go down so that the Plainedge community would be taught a lesson. The man had a big ego and no one questioned him. Does anyone remember how much he controlled all the board members - including Doug, who he figured was a pushover because of his age and inexperience. He's gone and nothing can be gained by reliving what he did. As far as the board voting, it should not be allowed to have write-ins - candidates should submit petitions and be subjected to the community questions. This write in stuff should be illegal. Looks to me like 2 people trying to sneak in the back door. Any board of ed should be watched carefully - I've always believed that most who run have personal agendas that always show up in their decisionmaking. Why else spend all that time - constantly being second quessed - Do you really feel every board member does it for truly unselfish reasons? If Ryder was able to help her child gain employment - so be it. I happen to feel that it's Plainedge's gain to have her on the staff. In the rest of the workplace, isn't there always "someone who knows someone?" I'm glad the track prop passed. I hope they finish the work before our esteemed AD (a gift from Richman) eliminates the track teams. We all have our little pet peeves - I'd like a board that looks into this guys work week! They can start with how many meetings he attends at BOCES and how many hours he spends in the district per week. Those that make these high salaries should be monitored to make sure they are doing the job. Congrats again on passing our budget! Our kids deserve all we can do to make their educational experience the best it can be.

Enough-
Richmond is gone and so is the past.
R&K are also gone and have no juice left in this community. People will never forget how they gave away the ranch to the good DR.
The current superintendent and board are working hard for all of us and their agendas or reasons for running have been kept in check by their peers.
Decent teachers contract, fair budget that started at +10%, OK tax levy.
They have done it better then most and that's the reason we have passed 5 years in a row.
You too could have run via write in.
Be happy... at least until next May
