There is an article in Newsday about Plainedge's new superintendent. I believe the new superintendent will make more than P'Simer the outgoing superintendent. Please let me know if this is incorrect. The article says that we are paying this new super $238,000 a year! Does anyone else feel that this is excessive? Shouldn't we give a short term contract at a lower pay scale then the previous super and if he works well with the district offer a larger salary to stay?
Does the BOE know that our country is in a recession and schools need to cut back? The BOE threatened my children’s academic schedule from a 9 to an 8 period day, however, did restore it after numerous complaints. The BOE understands we need to cut costs, but why are they taking from the children, like going after the chess club, AP classes, and the golf team instead of reducing a starting salary? (I feel there are many qualified candidates that would have taken the position at a lower salary. Did the BOE narrow the candidates down to two or three before they started negotiating salary? Or did they pick someone and choose a salary from that point.)
Over the next couple of years the BOE could have saved a large amount of money when you add up the percent increases the superintendent will get each year. I feel like my tax burden will never level off, I'm not wishing for it to be lowered just level off and wish seems like it will never come true.

I thought our Mr. Cuomo is against these kind of payouts? He runs the whole State of New York for what,... $178,000.? More of my neighbors have been putting up FOR SALE signs. How much longer do we put up?
I don't know and I guess I should find out first,.... Will this new Superintendent cut some of the other administrators first, or just pressure the parents again about Clubs and Sports and Teachers? Is anyone in the know? The Gov. is stating that the regular thing of threatening the kids Sports is wrong. Will he give REAL support? Whichever of you grew up here you can remember the way the schools were. Are we really getting what we pay for? The teachers are Great. IMHO, the management has grown way out of control and is not working in the best way for the community.
I know this may anger some parents, but this is not meant to do that. We can NOT go back to a way of holding hostage the kids programs, to maintain administrative jobs. A new Superintendent should be able to cut office costs BEFORE cutting for the kids. FIRST, with their salary. Really if the Gov. can run the State for less,......

What are your thoughts for the coming Super?
The teachers and programs should not be cut at all, IMHO. But I think there should be a very good review on ALL of Administration salaries.
From the NEWSDAY report ,out of 600+ employees, about 150 are listed as Professionals and are above $100,000.00. Teachers,...well OK. But there is no title designation in the report.
Administration, what are the actual costs for jobs? Office workers should get paid a fair wage, but how do we find out the wages? Office personnel should be paid a regular working wage. People are often given "Titles" for their job. Titles, tend to make positions cost more than what the duties really are. Duplicate jobs in different buildings should be consolidated to the smallest amount of employees before trying to cut out things for the kids.
Office work should require LESS People than years ago due to the introduction of Computers, Data Bases, and Communication Services. I find it VERY hard to believe that it takes so many people to Administrate this District NOW,..than it did before the electronics were available for less of a student population. I went to these schools (when there were more of them) and there were not as many titles for jobs back then. I think that too many jobs have been cut up to make another job for someone else. A lot of consolidation should be done before ANYTHING comes around to threaten the kids programs.
We are going to be looking very soon at increases because NYS will not be giving as much money to our school districts. For this we will be told we have to raise the School Budget. When the State does not give more money, it is because they are not taking it out of our Left Pocket. It does not mean that it gives the School System the reason to take it out of our Right Pocket. It still comes out of OUR POCKETS! If you don't have the money,...DON'T SPEND THE MONEY!!!!!
Don't hurt the kids, but really look at consolidation.
What is your opinion?

Did you know that out new superintendent worked very closely with our past superintendent (Mr. Richman) at Roslyn Schools?
Did you know that your current BOE president is still friendly with Mr. Richman.
Is it a coincidence?
Makes you think.

238K?? Let's level it off and start him at an even quarter million. It's like Obama getting the nobel peace prize before he even started office. Why would we have to offer him a something larger to stay anyway? Who would leave making that kind of money, and where would they go? Where can I go to see all of the teachers salaries and teacher to student ratio, and where do we see information on this new super and what he's getting paid? Yes this is a bit reactive, finding out after the hire, but when I saw this number I was amazed.
