The following was sent by the John Richman, Superintendent of Plainedge Schools: 5/24/06
The WATER AUTHORITY OF WESTERN NASSAU COUNTY has had several calls from customers wanting to confirm that the Water Authority had called them to schedule an appointment to visit their house, when in fact, they did not. The caller on some of calls, told the customer they wanted to come over to test the water. On more recent calls, they've told the customer they wanted to come over to "remove their meter and put it outside of the house."
From The Water Authority's experience, "test your water" calls often are filter or bottled water people trying to get a foot in the door to make a sale, but the meter removal story is more suspicious in nature.
In addition, from the few reports they have had, it appears that the calls seem to target elderly customers. Ed, If possible, could you please post this at the Library? Thanks, De
