Does anyone know if the secretarial union has a contract yet? I know from the board meeting that there seems to be a stalemate in the talks however, I thought things were getting better? Can someone please fill me in? I missed something somewhere. What on earth is taking so long for this contract to be agreed upon? Maybe new leadership on both ends is what is needed? If anyone knows, please share...

As of the 10-12-2006 meeting minutes:
Mrs. Zinke reported on the clerical negotiations. She stated that there was some mis-information circulating throughout the community and read a statement in an effort to dispel some of the rumors. She reported that the Board of Education was committed to reaching an agreement with the unit and the district had accepted the mediator’s proposal. She enumerated the major components of the proposal and noted that the mediator looked for some compromises by both parties. The clerical unit has not accepted the mediator’s proposal and has requested a fact finder. She stated that the Board of Education would not respond to emails sent to them on this issue as it could further jeopardize an agreement.
My guess is "No". I would assume it would have been posted to the district website similar to the custodial agreement.

Thanks Go for that info...I guess you are right. It would be posted on the website if it was reached. Sounds to me like the district finally agreed with mediator proposal but the clericals have not? What exactly is a "fact finder" that the clericals are requesting?

I'm sure there is more to it that we will ever know. I feel like each side tells their version of the situation and we only know what has been published in papers and on websites.

As posted on the school website:
I am pleased to announce that a tentative agreement has been reached between the Plainedge Educational Secretaries Association and the District. The contract will cover the period of July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2011. This contract was another in a line of successful negotiations that have adopted an “interest based bargaining” approach.
Special thanks go out to the negotiating team of Eileen Miele, Lynn Schiffl, Flo Raucci, Annette Mule, Joy Cacioli, Judy Walter and Yvonne Gonzalez. I thank them for taking a risk with a very different approach to negotiating and for having the courage to see it through.
As a result of their work, the membership overwhelmingly ratified the contract last week. It is anticipated that the Board of Education will take the same action at their monthly business meeting on Thursday, March 15th.
