From the 11/14 BOE minutes......
Dr. Richman explained his desire to add a custodian at the Middle School due, in part, to the sophisticated heating, ventilation and electrical systems which requires almost full time attention.
I'm sorry, this is a new building right? My kid tells me that it has been pretty cold in the school.
I'm glad we spent all that money so wisely.

Ahhh...the project that was "managed so well by Jeff Burns" is now costing us in the long run.
Plainedge voters approved a $53 million bond for all of the building and renovations in 2000. The state is expected to reimburse the district up to 50 percent for the work and the average homeowner will pay approximately $400 a year over 20 years.

Hey G.P., You have always presented yourself as fair minded and reasonable in my opinion. This is a forum utilized by folks with strong ideas and opinions who aren’t necessarily afraid to voice them. IMO, you haven’t displayed a “closed minded” persona at all. So there to them that say you do. Anyway, As for the hiring of a new custodian for the middle school, “due, in part, to the sophisticated heating, ventilation and electrical systems which requires almost full time attention”, it is the “in part” part that is the key portion of the sentence that I keyed on. It makes fiscal sense to maintain any new system to the industries recommendations. Whether or not it’s your cars preventive maintenance, the servicing of your hot water heater or scanning your laptop for adware or malware, the more one is pro-active in ones maintenance, the less it will cost in repairs in the long run. So if “in part”, part of this new guy/gal’s job is to service this “sophisticated” system, I would think it would have the same effect as my maintaining my vehicles as I do and getting well over 125,000 miles out of them before they start creaking and groaning like my knees. (That I did not take care of so well). As for the claim that the climate in the building is less than temperate, a possible theory for this could be that with the unseasonable warmth and near record temperatures we have been experiencing in the past week, the administration in an attempt to save on heating costs, and therefore, save us money, has prudently adjusted the thermostats accordingly. I know it's radical, but what a concept.

Wild,
Your theory is hopefull. I am hopefull that you are right.
However, with what is known about the "faulty" new AC in the building that the vendor refused to repair and warranty, I tend to give less credence to this theory. I would also ask why these new systems would need "almost full time attention" if it were for just simple or routine maintenence, preventitive or otherwise. One would also think that the equipment would still be under some type of manufacturers warranty. We seem to be getting 1/2 a story as usual from the good doctor. Of course that 1/2 is his PR firm story. Which leads me to ask, why does a school district need a public relations firm? The money spent on PR would be better off spent on the kids.
My 2 cents.
