Welcome to the Plainedge School District Message Boards!
First things first....PLEASE TELL YOUR FREINDS ABOUT THIS FORUM. IT WILL HELP BRING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND ALLOW US TO BECOME MORE INFORMED.
This message board was created when the Plainedge School District decided to shut down their message forum. Technically, I guess they can. However, it sends a clear message to the people of the district that the School Administration didn't care for what was being said.
Please enjoy the forum. If you would like to see any additions, please let the administrator know.
Lets "pick up" where we left off and have FUN!

Thank you for stepping up and restoring the pipeline for the community!
It's too bad that the Superintendent and the School Board chose to censor a Community Forum.
They have only proved again that they are doing things they do not want the Taxpayers to know about.
Keep up the good work and THANKS!!!!

To All: Watch out when posting a message. There is a tendency for this Board (like others) to misspell words in a very awkward way. It took me two edits of my original message to change words so that they would not be misspelled by some automatic feature of the Board. In addition, my Birthdate ended up with the wrong number for the year, and my joining date showed up as February! WRONG! So be careful and review the data you post. Numbers as well as words may come out wrong - without you ever making a typo!

Dear Just:
I noticed that and made the adjustments. It was a filter that automatically changes "bad" words to "clean" words. Unfortunately, it changed the spellings of normal, everyday words.
It should be fine now.

To assure my post submitted to Feedback on the Plainedge Officially Censored website was read, I've copied it to this forum. We shall see if it's "approved" by the dictators-at-large.
I believe it's called censorship to disable a community forum paid for by tax dollars. This is a venue which enables the community to express their views about issues and to see the views of others dealing with the school district which is supported by the taxpayers. I personally viewed all posts and there was absolutely nothing inappropriate about what was posted. To say members of the community can silence other community members voice is to bring Hitler tactics to Plainedge. Who are the accusers? We are entitled to know. In a court of law you cannot be condemned without facing your accuser. Those who posted are being condemned by who? Any of them the responsible parties who smashed a windshield or put several nails in a community member's tires who spoke out? This is just to list a few. Why is this Feedback section available but not the Forum? Is it appropriate to post here but not in the Forum? Or is this being censored, too? Are only select commentaries being posted? One thing I can really get riled about is censorship. I believe there are actions being taken here that might be considered discriminatory. I've been in this school district since 1986 and have had encounters with the very few community members that think they own all rights to the school and if anyone demands accountability on the part of the BOE, Superintendent, etc. then there's a price to pay for being outspoken. How sad to see such behavior. But those few will no longer threaten the peace, tranquility and accountability desired by the majority of this community. We are strong in desire and will bring honor to this neighborhood of hard working individuals who deserve to be respected and acknowledged! Yes, I see the note below the submit button. Approval of the content of this comment is necessary before it's posted. The school newspaper allows for more controversial material than is allowed from the ADULT TAXPAYER of this community.

I thought this site should be made public to our representatives so they know what this part of the community is involved in. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Elected Officials Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2005 07:04:08 -0500 Good Morning, Since the "Community Forum" has been shut down, I thought you as our representatives would like to know that it has a new address. www.plainedgechat.proboards57.comAt this site people are invited to talk about all issues and events in the Plainedge Community, not just issues relating to the budgets. I hope that you take this invitation to see the site and to find out more about the views of the people you represent. Thank you in advance and enjoy the rest of the summer.

From the Commissioner of Education: Budgeting Handbook.
BUDGET TRANSFERS AND SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATIONS
It is an exceptional budget that does not require some adjustments made to its appropriation function-object codes during the fiscal year.
The board of education has the power to make transfers between and within functional unit appropriations for teachers' salaries and ordinary, contingent expenditures. Though transfers are for contingent items, they may not cause the administrative or overall contingent budget caps to be exceeded. Boards of education may, by resolution, authorize the chief school officer to make transfers within the limits as established by the board. ยง170.2(1) of the Commissioner's Regulations allows transfers "between and within a functional unit appropriation for teacher's salaries and ordinary contingent expenditures" as follows:
Transfers to be made between contingent expenditure codes. Transfers to be made from a non-contingent expenditure code to a contingent expenditure code.
This regulation does not allow:
Transfers to be made from contingent expenditure codes to non-contingent expenditure codes. Transfers to be made between non-contingent expenditure codes.

To all concerned. The following is a copy of an email sent to the BOE, individually. I'm sure they've been invited to read what the Community speaks on this forum. They know their community well enough to know we won't be silenced. We do have First Amendment Rights and CENSORSHIP cannot prevail. Hopefully, the individual BOE members will respond and when they do, I'll be sure to post it here. ;D To The BOE, Just curious about the notification of the August 11, 2005 meeting. Where had there been advance notice given of this meeting? How was the public notified? How well was it publicized? I had no knowledge of this meeting until after the fact. Secondly, regarding the shutting down of the Community Forum on the Plainedge Schools .org site, is there a legitimate reason to shut down a venue through which the community is able to communicate to one another? It certainly was great to put to use our expansive and expensive technology for a great cause, community interaction and involvement! The BOE and others have said the community isn't as involved as it should be and now the opportunity for that to increase has been nipped in the bud by the action of some who decided they didn't like what had been communicated. How is it that those who have been elected to represent the people, you guys, can allow censorship of a Community Forum? That certainly is what has taken place. I'd like an answer from each as I have addressed this to each. Thank you.....Jennifer Grinberg

The following is a reply from the postmaster@plainedgeschools.org regarding the email I sent yesterday and is posted just above to the entire BOE. Seems there's a "challenge" with getting the email to Trustee Flanagan. Maybe she will read this post or one of the BOE members will inform her of the email to all. This is a comment on Reply #6 which was posted on 8-16-05. As of today, the comment I submitted to FEEDBACK on the school website, has not been posted nor commented upon. I can't say that I really expected anything different but there's always hope that some change will take place. Besides, I'm sure that it's been read and commented on behind closed doors.

Administrator,
Again, Thanks from me and some other members of this community for providing this service. It is certainly doing a needed job for all us us.
Meanwhile, I thought the following e-mail exchange between my self and another Plainedge resident might be insightful for all that want to use this Board.
And, therein, is my personal e-mail and phone numbers for all others to see. If others feel or prove that I supply misinformation, they can get clarification or details by contacting me by e-mail. I do advocate getting all info "straight from the horse's mouth" I will provide links and sources for all numbers quoted by me. And, I will make corrections on any erroneous data.
Here's the e-mail exchanges:
Hi RESIDENT, (Name not used without permission) The "jdavola" handle is the same as the name of a character from the Seinfeld show - Crazy Joe Davola. Apparently the School Board member using it chose to provide a "disruptive" presence on this community site. A "pot stirrer", so to speak. Pot-stirrers have their place and can provide a useful function. There is nothing more definitive about "jdavola" than that information supplied by him/her in the following statement cut and pasted from their post; "I just wanted to join a group like me...a thin-skinned, anonymous critic with nothing better to do with my time than sit behind my keyboard and put out misinformation to the rest of my small circle of closed minded pals."
I noticed that the series of messages started as a response to the thread about "Long time Board Member" letter to the Massapequa Post. This is the one which provided the facts that the numbers of Administrators had not varied much over the last nine years, despite the letter writer's incorrect claim that they had dropped from "24 to 18 in the last few years". Yes, It probably did hit a nerve. However, as "Techie" has said, we should, and would, welcome all to the site. The information and insights that a Forum member provides in their post will speak for themselves about the benefits that that person brings to the rest of us. Even the perfectly obvious negative, sarcastic and offhand comments that this individual has made (i.e.; generalized comment about members supplying "misinformation" without substantiating that claim) speaks a ton about the nature of the individual. As does the general nature of the posts; which are street corner "wise-guy" comments and personalized attacks on others. That gives us insight as to what value these posts will be to the rest of us, and the true value that this person adds to the community, despite the "wave the American flag/quote apple-pie and motherhood" nature of their stylized closing comment - close by hiding behind a noble comment that no one will disagree with. It becomes your "cloak of respectability". Remember Richman's methodology in providing answers: If the subject is too embarrassing to him, or beyond his capability to answer, then : Misinform, misdirect and play "harried" while personally attacking the questioner. Many of us have gotten that type of response from Richman when we press him too closely in e-mail questions about the School. It's no wonder that a School Board member tries to employ the same technique. Regards, edowdell@hoflink.com 516-249-9308 516-694-6440 ----- Original Message ----- From: RESIDENT To: Ed Dowdell Sent: Friday, September 02, 2005 11:14 PM Subject: Re: Questionable Internet Services
Who the heck is jdavala that is attacking you? Hang in there. I hate to wage any guesses, but I'm thinking a current admin. or one of the former board members. Don't let it get you down. You are hitting a nerve with someone.
