Go, You make some valid points, however, this is no time to be multi-tasking. We need to put OUR complete focus on the task at hand. Failure is not an option as the only ones happy in this community if that were to happen would be the realtors. Stay the course our key words are WE, OUR, US, UNITED, TEAM, and KIDS. With hard work and TEAM work WE will have a very memorable night on 5/16. I propose a goal of at least a 500 vote victory. Lets put an end to this thread and start a new VOTE YES thread. VOTE YES ON 5/16 for the BUDGET and CPR. John Danielo Done SupportsStudents!! Lets use this thread to share ideas and brainstorm as to the best methods to promote and ensure a passed budget! DONT HURT THE KIDS!!! VOTE YES!!! Breathe new life into the BOE...CPR it!!!!!

Moving forward lets concentrate our talents on the budget. We have been arguing the number of angels that dance on the head of a pin. Lets talk it up at the bus stops. Lets bring it up at the games. Lets not shy from challenge. Mom23 is right. Pride in town, Pride in school and Pride in a community of forward looking people. The future is now! VOTE YES! and if I lived in Chicago vote often! On a side note "Facts": I'm through wilth the Devils Advocate Post and will apply myself diligently to the positive direction that will get the budget approved. I didnt realize you liked the game. D

As Blutarsky said so eloquently in Animal House, lets do ittttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!! On a serious note, how does everyone like the signs. Appear to me to be strategically located. Many more are coming. Does anyone know any people that live along the main roads such as Hicksville Road, Broadway, Jerusalem, Hempstead Turnpike and Boundary and are willing to place lawn signs on there property. Please let me know.
I stand by my initial prediction of at least a 500 vote victory. VOTE YES for the children of this community, your property values, and CPR.

John,
Based on the email replies I have gotten their are still many people who are mis informed and think that they can send a message by not passing the budget. I just received one from a Grandfather who was po'd that his kids MS sports were not put back in....I sent him the Austerity Cuts list....I explained to him that we need to phase the programs back in....To no avail....Finally I told him that I was gonna vote YES for his Grand Children...
I mention this story because I don't think we can underestimate the other side....They have people who are spreading misinformation....Which we need to counteract. This message board and our community groups only represent a small portion of the Plainedge population....I am concerned that we are not reaching the rest of Plainedge. They are seeing the signs, but I am concerned they don't realize whats at stake.
I know we have alot of activities which are coming up....but I don't think we can ever under estimate the power of the Dark Side....We need to keep the pressure on. As long as we are vigilant in our communications and events we will win. But I think its premature to state that we are gonna win by a landslide.....Although I agree we WILL WIN !!!
WE, US and OUR..WE are in it for the long hual.......P-Town is OUR town!!!! DONT HURT THE KIDS!..............VOTE YES!!
See ya on the Fields, Joey A

I think Joey has made an excellent point - the PTRA, and the other alphabet soup of organizations putting their time and effort behind this VOTE YES campaign - need to keep the momentum going. Looking at the last two years of voting, there has been a solid 2000+ NO vote group. WE can probably not change to many of these voters, so we need to continue to get the potential YES voters out of the apathy of our 30-50 age group and into action. I applaud the baseball and softball folks for making as many of the young families aware of the importance of voting. I hope the soccer league is doing this as well. It is encouraging to hear that many more people have either registered to vote or picked up application. Those of us with kids off in college need to have them call Mrs. Kelly to get absentee ballots sent to them and get those back to Plainedge by the 16th of May. PTRA's people are talking to young families at the elementary bus stops - we need more of that! I have spoken to the Moms at the bus stops on my block, several have said they were going to go register. Yes, Phil, we need to find out who mom23 (great post by the way) is and get her involved with PTRA or PPAC Deirdre

plainedge13
Just a quick look at some "stats" for some to ponder when demographic claims are made.
There are 6242 homes in Plainedge. There are 3645 Students in the Plainedge Schools.
Those homes that are Married with Children are 34.5% of the total (2153 homes) Those homes that are Single with children are 3.32% of the total (207 homes) Those homes that have No Children are 62.18 % of the total (3882 homes)
Homes privately owned are 90.41% (5643 homes) Homes that are rented are 9.49% (592 homes)
If Renters do make a difference, it's under 9 1/2 percent total effect.
If Votes were cast on basis of Children/No Children, the results would be about 40/60, not 50/50as they have been. There would be half again as many NO votes as YES votes.
At 6242 homes, with about two voters per home, and a 4200 voter turnout of last year, that means about 1/3 of eligible voters turned out. This is a large amount compared to many other votes.

I believe this district is broken down into three types of voters
1. The vote Yes group 2. The vote No group out of spite 3. The vote No group from lack of education
I don't think we can change the #2 group (just yet). However, studies from CW Post have shown that if people fully understand where all the money is being spent and are presented with a budget that they can understand (written in plain english), then they are more likely to vote YES.
These are the people that are the "swing vote". These are the people that can make or break this district. These are the people that need to be reached out to and educated. Unfortunately, not everyone can attend workshops and budget meetings. I don't know what the best solution would be to reach and educate these people.

Go Plainedge,
The answer is communication. Everyone who is very involved in the process needs to take a few extra minutes talking to people whether it be at the Bagel store, supermarket, library, sports sideline, bus stop or where ever and let them no what is at stake. I know some people feel the administration is using threats and intimidation to pass the budget with the cuts list if the budget were to fail. But are they really, isn't it just the reality of the situation. Essentially a no vote is punching yourself in the mouth or the wallet, however you want to look at it.
Lets get this budget passed as a group, team, community then take the next step by getting the proper people on the Board to help assist in finishing the process. Rome wasn't built in a day and Plainedge can't be fixed overnight. WE are heading in the right direction and WE must continue to flood the community with information whether it be a conversation, email, handout, sign, or telephone call. Stay the course and good things will happen.
Vote YES on 5/16 and support CPR.

information should be posted all over about the consequences. Hanging signs that say "don't hurt the kids" isn't going to get it done. In fact hanging those signs will only hurt the kids because it pisses people off.

Rinx - Thanks for your insite....Does that mean you will be Chairing that sub-committee? Let me know if you need some help....I will make myself availble....
However, I do know that some people are pissed off by the list of consequences as well. Some are interpreting them as threats....We just need to educate them in what the realities of the situation are...We can discuss Thursday at the Vote Yes Meeting....Hopefully I will see you there.

In fact hanging those signs will only hurt the kids because it pisses people off. Rinx, Thanks for the positive ideas and creative suggestions. The active community members who have met, and expressed themselves at meetings and thought and discussed and debated and brainstormed and sacrificed and worked their butts off to come up with a plan and strategies to help pass this budget came up with the idea to post those signs TOGETHER as a TEAM. The community members also have a very successful track record of getting things done. WE have some experience in civic action. The results of this whole process so far should make that clear. I cant tell you how many people were pissed off when they saw the kids and parents washing cars all summer long too!! Yep, there were people who would yell from their cars that "No means No" and that we were "Wasting our time". You saw how their feelings impacted the final outcome, didn't you? There will always be people who are pissed off. WE ignore them and focus on finding people who want to help the cause, who want to do something other than complain and point out issues they don't understand or are misinformed about. WE are on the front line, We pay no attention to the "Bar room patriots" nor the "Bar room naysayers" And , so you can rest easy, there are 5000 flyer's with the consequences clearly spelled out ready for distribution, with a detailed plan on how to disseminate them. Make you rest any easier? It shouldn't, because thats not enough. Thats where the signs come into play. Thats where the meetings come into play. Thats where the parade and rallies come into play. Thats where the budget Awareness Day activities come into play. Those are just the start. Rinx, If you were part of the WE, US and OUR who helped put these initial plans together WE thank you for your participation. If not, ....well..... There is a open meeting this Thursday for the "VOTE YES" committee. Feel free to reach out to us if you would like to help US in OUR positive, focused, well thought out mission to get this budget passed. We cannot change the "pissed off " peoples minds. Best spend our energies on getting the YES vote out. WE, US and OUR..WE are in it for the long hual.......P-Town is OUR town!!!! DON'T HURT THE KIDS!..............VOTE YES!!

A rhetorical question for you Rinx,
Do you think any of the aforementioned was done last year when the budget was defeated by a grand total of 69 votes?
Lets stay focused on OUR goal, ........postively, ........WE have no alternative.
