Devils
As I freely admitted, I am on the fence about this one. However, are you to imply that because someone doesn't agree with the sale, then they should have another option in their pocket....or simply vote yes? That doesn't seem right. A real viable alternative may not be clear just yet but that doesn't mean someone shouldn't or can't be vocal about their disagreement with the sale.
PS - Glad to see you're still around

If you just felt a splash of water on your back, it is because you got caught in the Plainedge wave. Another great night tonight actually last night in Plainedge history. The Packard/Picken wave has started and sleeping giants have awoken. Jump on board or you will miss the ship. The deal is alive and well and will start gaining steam.

Good morning Go, my position is simply that since the opening of the not so new anymore Middle school, the district has been faced with decision of what to do with the old Packard property. The swap is a fair exchange and a good deal, maybe not a perfect deal, but a good deal for all involved. My thought is that if we do not move on this now, if we (as a district) continue to stall the deal will come off the table. To the best of my knowledge there have been no other options and in that case this does become the only solution. The property has been hanging like a albatros around the Boards (our) necks. Lets take advantage of this opportunity and gain a facility that will benefit this district for generations. Based on last nights meeting there seems to be considerable support. If we let this chance slip away now it maybe years, if ever, before a viable deal is put together. Finally; I never left but thanks for the welcome back!

Devils, Sorry to put my two sense in here. I apologize for being off the scene for a little while. But I am pissed off and more resilient than ever...... At least Mr. Landek has come to the microphone with an alternative......A ridiculous alternative, but at least he came to the microphone Tuesday night and said his piece. Mr. Lanek's opinnion is that we should sell our only parcel of land left in Plainedge to a Real Estate developer..... Mr. Landek doesn't realize that we have had this conversation before during the past two years. Forgive him, that was only his third board meeting being actively involved after living here all his LIFE..... That idea would be catastrophic to this community. But other than Mr. Landek, there are many that bring problems to the microphone without any potential solutions. They question the integrity of the Town of Oyster Bay and the current Administration and Board of Education unwarrantedly. That is the sad part. I want to say one thing..... WHERE WERE YOU LAST NIGHT MR. ARROGANT AND CONDESCENDING THAT REARED YOUR HEAD ON THE 24TH? You had the courage to step up to the microphone on the 24th of September...... Perhaps you were cowering in the back with the other 20 people in this community against this project. You won a battle. The WAR has just begun......GAME ON !!!!! Get on board or get out of the way!!!!!! The Plainedge Train is running down Hicksville Road. Don't get caught under this train. As the crowd of 400 last night can tell you...... The Silent Majority has awoken.

GREAT turnout last night by the silent majority. Lots of good points but most importantly a yes to no ratio of about 99-1.
I believe our new supy, christine when she closed the meeting by saying she was going to call the town back this morning. EVERYONE in the front of the room saw that they had the groups and the people that truly care about the school and the community in the room last night voicing their support for the swap.

out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in keeping the property? Hear me out... Knock down the building KEEPING the gymanasium up. Use the gym as temporary classroom space when needed, the rest of the time it can be used for practices for the sports teams. With the building down, we can put additional fields in ourselves. I'll be the first to volunteer to help with that portion. Thoughts?

As a long time reader, first time writer, I have an idea!!!!!
Lets ask the Plainedge Fairy to appear and wave her magic wand and just make that building disappear!!!!
The Easter Bunny, Santa and the Tooth Fairy could help her!!!!
I know, I know.
That scenario has the same chance as happening as the “we build the fields ourselves” idea. (“I’ll bring my earth mover, you over there, you bring your crane. Joey, you’re in charge of the bulldozer).
Or was the insinuation that the district would pay for it???
That’s a grand idea! That would go over great at budget time.
Enough sarcasm.
After last nights meeting, it is clear and obvious that the majority of this community wants this deal to go forward.
Even the very few naysayers and the “have some doubt”-ers realized, and publicly stated, that there is too much at stake to postpone this any further and it should go to the voters.
This was, is and always has been a no brainer for Plainedge. Both the kids and seniors get something out of this.
Someone accurately said last night that the park would be a “diamond” for us.
“Plainedge Community Park”
Say it out loud to yourself.
Just try keeping the smile off your face when you do.
“Plainedge Community Park” “Plainedge Community Park” “Plainedge Community Park”

78,
Jump on board. The sleeping giants have awoken and this deal is going to happen. I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But this one is truly a " no brainer " for the Plainedge Community.
Phoenix,
I like " Plainedge Community Park ". I true focal and meeting point for the Plainedge community.

wow!! it seems the sleeping giants have awaken on this message board as well...WHERE HAVE YOU ALL BEEN? I've been in support of this deal from the start but the messages here haven't been so positive. Great turnout last night, great show of support, too bad the town wasn't there to see it. Its not over guys....we need to keep this momentum going and keep going to the meetings to continue showing our support.
Plainedge Community Park?! LOVE IT

1Plainedge - Great point.... Mrs P'simer proved yesterday that she is the true leader of this community.
78ptownpower - Pardon my directness......Are you out of your mind? Were you not involved the last two years during budget time. Thats right, you weren't. So let me educate you. We can't get a $5,000 club approved but we are gonna approve the delicate demolition of the entire building except for the GYM.......The GYM is on the 2nd floor of the building!!!!! Will David Copperfield keep it suspended in thin air. What happened to selling the land? Come up with an idea and stick with it.
Phoenix - Love it......Maybe Cupid could pay the tax bill for us.
Dborg - Sorry you been fightin the battle on here alone......Help is on the way !!!!!!
Plainedge Community Park - Awesome Idea
Don't you just love this neighborhood ;D

So now the name calling, bullying and browbeating starts. You people that claim to be for the kids and the budget are willing to throw away almost 4 million dollars? I in no way advocate building houses. I want that park as much as everyone else, probably more. As for my idea of using the gym..I haven't seen any of you come up with any type of plan B should this not happen. By the way, The gym wing can stand on its own. It has it's own foundation and everything. Yes are there rooms beneath the gym. obviously you utilize that too. Instead of being wiseasses come up with something constructive.
So you're all for the park...great! we're on the same page there.
The only area where we differ is I don't appreciate getting ripped off when if we got what it was actually worth and was appraised at would go to the kids. Almost 4 million dollars would be new school buses, new locker rooms in the HS, money for more clubs, money for more sports, money for the district to use in the future for any repairs that come up. Keep in mind Picken is roughly the same age (slightly older) as Packard with the same flat roof and the same old windows. Should the BOE tell us that they did their absolute best to get more cash from the town I'll sign on 100%. Until then I'll continue to advocate that we should and need to receive what the building and land is worth from the town. It's worth 3.825 Million dollars more then they have offered. I'm not ready to give up that kind of scratch for OUR KIDS without a conversation with the town.
Parklover, What kind of fight will we be fighting with people come budget time if they see us leave almost 4 million dollars out there? Are they going to say we're fiscally irresponsible because of this and vote the budget down? I don't want to see that and I'm sure you don't. Also, when did I ever say to sell the land? I said to get from the town what is was worth and was appraised at. That figure from the appraisal is $350,000 per lot. Not the $100,000 the town has offered.
Lets all be constructive, pull in the same direction and we'll be able to get all of this accomplished.
Now why was the vote postponed? I for one hope it's to talk about getting more money for our kids. However, at the meetings with the town, someone asked the town if they had done a traffic and housing value impact study. Perhaps that is the delay.

78,
The delay on the part of the Town is that they became very concerned with dealing with Plainedge as they thought after 9/24 that we were all lunatics like you and Landeck. After last night, they will be well aware that the vibrant, active and POSITIVE Plainedge community is alive and well. Oh, sorry about the name calling. Jump onboard there is plenty of room on the train. This is the deal, we have to take it now or regret it for the rest of our lives.

{sigh} OK...I'll leave the name calling and browbeating to some others. I thought that was the "Old Plainedge" and was left back in the days of Richman, Dick and Mallow...I guess I was wrong. I am glad to see so many people passionate about their beliefs. I am all for you furthering your ideas and understandings about this project along with campaigning to get it passed. For those that are all "Vote Yes" can you tell me what condition Picken is in on the inside? Is there crumbling asbestos? Is there a leaky roof? Are there corroded pipes anywhere? What condition is the heating system in? I'll ask this again....does anyone TRULY know what shape the building we are getting is in? Sure, we all know what the town is building for us and that's exciting and frankly, much needed. The reality is, that's only half the deal. Do you agree to a whole deal without know what the other half is?
