Anne always gets it done.
What about the Bobcats and PSC signing at the fields. It would be the the people who support the dealin relatively big numbers all in one place?
Has anyone in the know heard if the town has softened since Thursday night?

Good morning, We are beginning to see the groundswell of support that has propelled this community in the past to just get the job done. If we do not get the swap accomplished the naysayers and obstructionist crowd will next be crying that we dont have a state of the art field and will attempt to place blame everywhere except where it belongs. This is no-brainer. We have to get this swap and the sooner the community drives home this point to the TOB the better. Phone calls, emails, petitions; will all make this happen. One more time as a community, lets make this a reality.

Petitions in support of the Community Park and Packard/Piken swap have been circulating at all the sports events this weekend - baseball, football, lacrosse, soccer. We haven't counted all the signatures up yet, but we plan to collect them all and bring them to the Town of Oyster Bay Board Meeting on Tuesday evening (Oct 16) to show the TOB how motivated the community is to move forward with this project.
Anyone who has any signed petitions need to get them to us tonight/tomorrow - to any of the sports presidents (Joe Karam, Joe Amalfitano, Mike, etc.), myself, and/or Ken Coder.
Thanks.

Anne...you are amazing...we got tons of signatures at the soccer fields and I'm sure the other clubs got a lot as well. There was an overwhelming sense of support, its a great feeling when the masses unite for a common goal. Good Job to all!

Dear All,
I spoke with Ken Coder this morning and he stated that as of 9am he had in his possession about 300 signatures. We hit the sidelines at the football and baseball games.....Almost every person in attendance signed the petition. I can see this having around 1,000 signatures by the next meeting.
The momentum is flowing like a tsunami...... A Plainedge tsunami ! I have to tell you that I am very proud to be affiliated with a community as positive and outpouring as this one. I could not imagine living anywhere else. By the way the Varsity Football Team beat Island Trees something like 42-7 this weekend.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I just found out about this swap from a flyer left at my door. What everyone on this post seems to forget is that Packard is on the boundary of the school district. The residents across the street (on Central Drive) are in the Farmingdale district and have no say, or knowledge, of this proposal. I live less than a block away. Believe me, it was bad enough when Packard was open and the parents and school buses cut through my street. Now we're supposed to deal with a Town Hall and have no say in the matter?? This does not belong in a residential area!

Farmingdaleneighbor,
With all due respect, you didn't expect traffic when you bought a house across from a school? It has been closed for a few years now but did you really expect that forever? As a Plainedge taxpayer I welcome the thought of some tax stability in our community. Farmingdale residents have a commercial tax base, the same can not be said for Plainedge. If you wouldn't mind could you post the flyer? I would love to see if the information is accurate or tainted by those opposed.

Farmingdale neighbor,
I am sorry you feel that way but you have Allen Park, Mass. has Burns and Field of Dreams, Hicks and Bethpage also have ones. It is now Plainedge's turn. The Plainedge Community Park. It has a wonderful ring to it and it is going to happen. The facility will be no busier than an active MS which I am sure was already there when you bought your house.

I'm not being sarcastic, I really want to know. Why would you think that a flyer is ONLY tainted by those that oppose this deal. Could it not be tainted by those that are for this deal? Come on....you know better than that.

To our friends to the East. You have TOB Allen Park which is doubling if not tripling in size. You also have the F9 fields south of 109 near rt 110 which has a soccer field and baseball diamond maintained by the Town and used by the residents.
Fair is fair.... its our turn

I've sat back and read all the points/counterpoints. I am in favor of getting rid of the elephant known as Packard. We don't need it but as others have indicated: are we getting fair value? It will be another piece of land in Plainedge that produces absolutely no tax income to our district. So while you are walking through the "Plainedge Park" or watching someone play a baseball or football game on the fields, remember that we have lost out on some tax revenue that might have been generated. Plainedge is a wonderful place to live- but it's getting very expensive to live here - our budget woes are not going away anytime soon. Every year it's tough to pass a budget - budget passes - politicians and active community members state that there will be changes in the tax structure - and it never happens. Here's an idea- when our taxes get high enough to make us all lose our houses - we can live in the Plainedge Park. (I am only kidding - so those that are constantly looking at these decisions with rose-colored glasses- don't sermonize how I need to "join the tsunami before it's too late" I support school district- I just want to be able to live in it. My kids would appreciate it - they like to camp but not permanently! lol We need to get fair value for the trade- some act like the town is an enemy- don't we elect these people?

can you explain to me Former what tax income we are getting from the property currently? ah i think the answer is NOTHING. Currently, it is a financial DRAIN on us...costing the district more than $80K for maintenance annually With the trade, we will be getting $120K for 3 years AT LEAST while the town leases pickens from us. If you think building houses or some other commercial property on the packard property is the answer you are sadly mistaken. Our community is already heavily populated, we need to preserve the open land that we have and what better way to do it than with a community park and center that can benefit all of us. And I guess i am one of those "active community members" that you speak of---and you say it like its a bad thing...and believe me I don't have rose colored glasses on...I own my home and pay my taxes as you do...the majority of this community are hardworking professionals,,if any of us were independently wealthy we wouldn't be living in Plainedge. But to NOT support this deal is truly foolish. I'm so sick of all the negativity and false information spreading around the community, perhaps if there were more active community members the current information would pass along quicker and things could get done faster in this community. I'm proud to be an active community member and I'm proud of what we have accomplished

It's time to throw my support for this project. Am I 100% happy with it? Heck no and I think I have made myself known as to why. But, A deal on it is better than no deal on it. Oh, and for those that laughed at the keep the gym plan B I mentioned... That was the first plan A by the BOE way back when. I found an old massapequa post article that states this.

Oh and hey folks... If we need fields for the kids to play on you know there are some fine county parks available Eisenhower, Wantagh, Washington Avenue to name a few. We played on those fields as kids. You need to contact those fields to request days/times.

78,
Welcome aboard. I welcome you with open arms. Does anyone think the deal is perfect. Of course not. If it was perfect it wouldn' t be a deal. it would be a steal for us. This is the best scenario for Plainedge. I agree with dborg 100%. Based on TOB attitude last night, I see nothing but smooth sailing ahead.
Former, you are too late into the game. This is all but a done deal that had hit a quick snag that the positive and active community leaders quickly untangled. Plainedge and most importantly the kids of Plainedge deserve this. Give us your support because we have virtual uninimity ( not sure if I spelled it correctly ) but you get the point.
