Hello all. I am 100% for the trade and have signed the petition at the Varsity football game on Saturday. I have asked this question before to this forum and still have not seen an answer. (I apologize it I missed it) What will happen to the wrestling room. Will it be rebuilt and who will pay for that. Obviously the answer does not sway my vote but I do have a Varsity wrestler and would like to know what will happen. Thank you.

I am not 100% sure but I believe there are 2 options. One is to re-locate the wrestling room back into the HS in the weight room and the other is to use the gym at Picken.

My post may have been misleading. I actually live down the street from Central Drive, and have lived there since before the school was built. I was trying to point out that the most immediate neighbors to Packard School have no knowledge of this proposal. As for Allen Park, that is on Motor Avenue, next to an abandoned factory site - a far cry from Packard's location in the middle of a completely residential area. A park or athletic field is fine, but I heard that a new town hall is proposed for this site (and by the way - no one stops Plainedge residents from using Allen Park).

Nobody stops us from using the park but try to get a soccer team practice time there and you get what's left AFTER Farmingdale has their pick. It usually ends up with 9 year olds having soccer practice on a Tuesday night at 9pm! It's our turn. We've quietly waited and watched all of our neighboring communities get theirs. We're tired of being the Bridesmaid. It's time for Plainedge to be the Bride!

F'dale- DONT PANIC!!!
The existing school building has a footprint of 43,000 square ft taking up 12% of the property.
The new town building (town hall is an overstatement) will have a footprint of 16,000 square feet or only 4% of the property.
The footprint will be almost 2/3rds smaller than the existing structure.

I appreciate all that many of you do. When I take exception is when myself and others have questions, we are seen as "negative attitudes." This also happened around budget time. If you question something - you are interpreted as being "negative." Many on here have a hidden agenda. We always say that everything is for the good of the kids. I believe that 90% of the time. The other 10% is composed of those that get involved for their own well-being. The publicity and attention make them feel good. That occurs in any activity that revolves around kids. Look at any league and you will see that the vast majority are working hard for the kids. There is a small percentage that likes the "fame and attention." Some of those who are active on here point it out to us sometimes far too often. "Look at me world, I'm doing something important." It would be nice for those people to become more modest and stop patting themselves on the back. We all want our kids to get the best we can provide. Is this deal the best deal we can get for our kids and the kids that follow. Good questions were brought about the wrestling team. Let's make sure we get an accurate answer to that. Let's not fall in love with "plainedge park" for the sake of having our own park. My kids will be graduating , last one 6 years from now. What will the future be for those that follow. I am not being "negative" - but I do feel this forum allows us to ask questions. Those that are able to be active, thank you, but let's stop with the self appreciation antics.

Former,
By all means you are entitled to question what ever you would like, but at the end of the day you have to support what is best for the community and the kids. This deal falls in with that. You are probably referring to me when you say the negative and positive spin. Yes I do refer to that because there is a negative and cynical tone when questioning. This is a new BOE and Administration that I believe has the kids interests as there # 1 priority. I believe in them and support them accordingly.
As for the people that you refer to the 10% that do it for themselves. I do not see that. What has gone on in this community since 2005 is unmatched and unprecedented. For you to look down on these active community members is shameful and disturbing to me. Plainedge and more importantly the children of Plainedge would not be where it is today without these hardworking and dedicated community members that # in the hundreds.

Sorry for being offline for a little while. Just got back into town from a business trip.
Farmdaleneighbor - There are a lot of things that I would like to have a say in....... and can't because I am not a taxpayer in that community. I would love to have a say in your school districts budget and expenditures but I don't..... I too live relatively close to YOUR community and would like to have a say..... But I can't. I am sure you were aware of this when you purchased your home. The nice part of this transaction is that your kids can utilize the beautiful park area and grounds after we make this happen. I am sure you can not be enjoying the desolate and barren conditions which exist at the property currently.
Formerworker - Did you forget that we are SWAPPING properties? We are not giving up a revenue producing facility we are exchanging one for the other. One I might add provides a more advantageous location for commercial business being on the main road in Plainedge. Big point we are forgetting..... The injection of $22 Million Dollars for Capital Improvements in OUR community.
78ptownpower - Welcome aboard the Plainedge Park Train !!!!!
To Everyone who poses questions regarding this transaction.....Questions are great.....Its not the message but the way in which it is being conveyed which is the major issue that many of us object to. The NEGATIVE and CONDESCENDING spin that is placed on so many of the questions generated on this board, is what I personally object to. Its the I am SMARTER than all of the residents attitude which is objectionable. I do believe that people who present questions in a professional and emotionless manner are entitled to a valid answer.
It was the abrassive and condescending questions presented at the 24th of September meeting which nearly ruined this deal..... Lets correct this going forward so we do not encounter it again during budget time like we have for the past three years. Ciao !!!!

The injection of $22 Million Dollars for Capital Improvements in OUR community. What $22 million? Did I miss something? Can you expand on this?

The renovations which the Town is planning to perform at the Packard complex has a total dollar value of $22 Million Dollars. These programs are being funded by the SEA Bond which the Town of Oyster Bay is floating..... For those interested there is alot of info on the Town website regarding this.

momma3, I asked that exact question regarding the wrestling room at the Sept 24 meeting and was told by the Superintendent that the the immediate plan was to move the wrestling room back to the High School in the weight room the way it was before.

That's different than implying that there is the injection of $22 million FOR Capital Improvments. This is $22 million worth of Capital Improvements...we're not getting $22 million FOR capital improvements. The difference is that money is already earmarked for a specific project (if approved) as opposed to having $22 million sittting in a fund that we can then decide what to do with. We need to be careful about our wording...this is how bad and negative rumors get started.

Last time I checked Capital Improvements were improvements that added to the Long Term Net Worth of an entity (Community)..... There is nothing wrong with my original statement. The Town will be spending $22 Million Dollars to rehabilitate the Packard Complex. If they didn't do it.....we would have to foot the bill out of the School Budget.
Since we have to wrestle with the Board of ed to add one adiditional club..... I can never see this happening out of our own pocket.....

Your original statement implies that we are getting $22 million cash for capital improments.
We're not, obviously. We can't let people think that. We're getting improvements worth $22 million. That money belongs to the TOB and the TOB is spending that money themselves in our area as they see fit.
That's a big difference and can easly lead someone to believe incorrect facts.
We wouldn't have to pay for anything out of the school budget because it would be status quo...no more spent that usual to maintain a crappy building.
