I don't have a comment yet about Packard but I am wondering what workingmom is doing on the computer at 4:50AM in the morning. When do you sleep?

Go Plainedge - This is exactly what I was referring to in my previous post.....If you think the people in this community are stupid enough that they can not differentiate between who is spending the funds then you obvioously do not think too highly of the intelligence level of Plainedge Residents.
The thing that is being completely OVERLOOKED and swept under the carpet is that the money is being spent in Plainedge instead of Farmingdale or Massapequa who would welcome this investment instead of looking for ways to criticize it.
The most dangerous part of this conversation is that people don't realize that if we don't accept this gift from the Town they will spend it somewhere else....
Eventually the building needs to be dealt with.....Which would cost the taxpayers of Plainedge in the school budget. Status Quo is not acceptable at that property any longer......Sorry you don't seem to understand this at this point in the game.

Park...I don't question the intelligence of the people of this community. However, many people will read something and then communicate it to someone else. Then that person tells someone and the story changes....and so on. Come on...you know better than that. It's the old telephone game.
Lets keep it accurate. Otherwise, you are just as guilty of those that you accuse are negative and spread false information. The word games were played many years ago and people fell for it. Keep it real.
I understand more than you think I do. This should have been done when the MS was being built. No one had the ability to get any progress done on that brick pile. There was some half assed interest by the NCPD and BOCES...thats it. The old BOE and Administration dropped the ball...plain and simple. Now, so many years later, we're still in a crunch about whats going to happen with that eye sore and wasting money on repairs, heating and maintenance.
My opinion is we either do this or the property will get sold to a developer and we will loose any open land that is remainig in the area. We can't afford to hold on to it any longer. It's a financial strain and not worth rebuilding...nor would that option ever get approved.
I understand more than you think. I've been involved and around more that you think. Please don't assume.

GO- please dont ever ever repeat the phrase "sell to a developer".
DO WE KNOW WHEN THE NEXT MEETING WITH THE TOWN WILL TAKE PLACE ON OUR TURF?

the last i heard it looks like this date is not going to happen...most likely a Dec 3rd meeting will occur--the hold up is with the TOB and not the school district...more than that i don't really know.

Its official...next meeting with the TOB will be on Dec 3rd...I will post more details as soon as i have them. In the interim..mark your calendars, tell your neighbors, family and friends...we need a TREMENDOUS showing of support at this meeting. We should all show up with our kids and wear our Plainedge Red.

You are correct about Dec. 3rd. It will be held at the Middle School again and there will be an afternoon meeting and an evening meeting. You know the naysayers will be out and about so everyone in favor MUST show up and be vocal in support.

I wanted to remind you all of the upcoming Dec 3rd meeting with the Town of Oyster Bay and the community of Plainedge to discuss the building of the "Plainedge Community Park" on the existing Packard Middle School Site. It is imperative that we show the town representatives that Plainedge is in FULL support of the Packard/Pickens Trade. To accomplish this we must all show up at the meetings on Dec 3rd at the Middle School with our children and wear our Plainedge Red. There will be 2 sessions that day, one at 3:30 and one at 7:30 pm. Please make every effort to attend with your children and let your voice be heard that you are in support of the trade and the building of this park. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Plainedge and we don't want it to be given to another community. To summarize the details of the purposed deal are as follows: 1) TOB will take over the entire Packard property in exchange for Picken Building. 2) TOB will give the Plainedge School District $1.5 Million in cash to be used for Capital expenditures or use to replenish our reserves. 3) TOB has agreed to rent Picken at $120,000 per annum for 3 years. 4) TOB will retain possession of the Baseball Fields behind the property. 5) The Town will be investing around $15 Million dollars into a Multi Purpose Athletic Facility and Community Center. The plan calls for 2 baseball fields and a multipurpose field to be used for Football, Soccer and Lacrosse, ALL TURF FIELDS which will be maintained by the TOB. 6) The Town will level the existing building and build a smaller, newer building in its place which will be used as the new TOB South. 7) This will be an administration building only. No Heavy Trucks, machineries or gas tanks will be placed at this location. 8) No lights will be installed at this location 9) Unlike today, there will be 24 hours security at the site as the TOB Public Safety will be patrolling the park. 10) Total parking on site will increase to about 173 cars which will eliminate side street parking. 11) A new Seniors & Community centre will be added to this building with many more activities than those currently available. Pictures of the park and more information on the swap can be found at the school website at www.plainedgeschools.org. Please tell all your friends and neighbors and forward this information to as many people as possible. We all need to unite together to make Plainedge Community Park a reality.

What about the fields at West? Are the reconstruction of these part of the deal too?
Hopefully, someone will have a full and accurate engineers report on Picken

Yes the fields at west are part of the deal. I believe thats included in the paperwork on the school website.
Come on the 3rd and ask any other questions you may have. There will be an engineer's report done on the building but as in any other real estate transaction, its not done until after we enter into contract with them.

Inspections are done BEFORE going into contract so as to have any defects that are found that need to be corrected are included in the contract.

Quick question.... Does anyone have friends or relatives on the Farmingdale side? Dave Mejas has sent out a letter regarding the Packard deal and Im curious if he sent it out to our neighbors in Farmingdale. If he did, the 12/3 meeting will be a mess.
