This "deal" has been a debacle from the start. Horrible communication, no forthcoming information, no community meetings and terrible negotiations.
Furthermore, the leagues and the people that run them are a PART of the community as a whole. They do NOT nor SHOULD NOT represent the needs of the community as a whole. There are other entities that make up this community....senior groups, religious groups, hobby groups, etc. There should be (as promised from the FIRST meeting) additional community hearings on this topic organized and run by the TOB and BOE. They have BOTH failed in organizing this and moving this project forward.
I would be speculating as to why I believe this project has stalled and start pointing fingers, therefore I will refrain from doing so. However, ALL community members need to be involved - not just the sports groups.
As far as emailing BOE members...don't worry, they read this message board...some just won't admit it in public or at the very least...post here.

Your post comes across with so much anger. Yes the sports clubs are just a part of the community but unless I am missing something they are a very large part of the population that will be impacted and will be using these new facilities. As I mentioned before the process is just starting and was stalled for whatever reasons. Please be patient and have some confidence that this will get done the right way.

Anger? No. Extreme disappointment with the lack of action? Yes.
I have been following and listening to this issue long before there was a potential deal with the TOB. We have heard stories that NCPD wanted the space and BOCES was interested. Both deals fell through before they were even a possibility (allegedly). We have wasted a lot of money maintaining that building. We are now stuck with this cement pile that no one else wants. If this deal doesn't go through, there will more wasted money to keep the structure and land in minimally decent order. It will become a real money pit.
However, if the deal goes through we may be jeopardizing space needed with a growing population (as confirmed by the "needed" addition onto Eastplain). Both buildings (Packard and Pickens) will need repairs no matter if the deal goes through or not. It's a matter of choosing the best of worst.
I also wanted to clarify your post stating that the "Clubs and the community are one in the same". As you agreed, the clubs are a PART of the community and not the community itself. No sports club leaders should take it upon themselves to speak for the community as whole. That job is for the BOE, in this particular case.

Support, again jumping to conclusions. I live no where near Packard. I'm concerned the deal won't go through without those residents buy-in.
I'm not in this for myself. I have no agenda. I want the swap. Many people post this is a new time, a new BOE. Really? Names have changed, but I think the communication has gotten worse.
The BOE has the responsibility to broker a deal with the town and bring that deal to the residents for approval. Lets be successful on this!

I spoke to a school board member today at Football Opening day. There will be a community meeting in the near future to discuss the Packard/Picken transaction. It will be announced on the school website along with flyers. They will have 2 sessions, one during the day and another at night. Everyone please have some patience, this transaction will occur and be a homerun for this community.

I think the anxiety comes from the fact that previous communications have implied that only the sports parents are speaking with town officials. Those NOT involved (as much) with the sports have a "left out" feeling and want an opportuinty to be a part of the meetings, communications and negotiations. Thank you!

I am in the same position and not privy to any "side meetings". I heard the update from a school board member whom I trust 100%. This process was slow to start due to the timing around the budget vote. Then the summer came, now things should start moving with the start of the new school year.

The point I'm trying to make is this: This current BOE except for Nancy was directed and still is directed by a president and vice president, who did NOT want to being any additional programs back. It was not until the community basically told them it would revolt that the BOE members opened up talks again and brought all the programs back that were cut under austerity. Add Flanigan and you have 3 BOE members that DID NOT WANT TO BRING PROGRAMS BACK especially SPORTS.... Now you expect them to get out in front and get this done? ?? I have no faith in them... but I hope this challenges them... And Please do not give me this is a new time in Plainedge. This BOE new perfectly well that most in the community wanted all the programs restored when they started their budget talks last year. What did we get? A proposal that left out, the gifted program, clubs and a host of sports. That my friends is our leadership.

I've heard from a few other people that the town has pulled out. I'm still hoping that this information is incorrect.

All--the meeting is posted in the school calendar already. Its Sept 24th at the Middle School. One is scheduled for 3:30 pm and the other for 7:30 pm so obviously the deal is NOT dead. If you don't have children in the schools you can obtain a school calendar at the library.
All concerned residents should make every effort to attend.
