Frawg88-I see you plastered the threads with the information about the meeting Nov. 14. Thanks. I hope people show up.
Perhaps Administrator of this board can also list it under the announcements, etc.

"techie"
From your last post I detect a hint of annoyance that I shared information from the "Official" School District Website with this "Unofficial" School District Website. If you and/or others knew the coffee hour schedule has been posted for a while, then why didn't anyone else think it important enough to post here? Isn't the purpose of this forum to educate people about what's going on in the schools and give them more opportunity to partake in budget discussions first hand?

A reminder to all, I try and post as much as I can on the calendar of this site. If there is something missing, please feel free to let me know and I'd be happy to add it

No annoyance at all about information shared!
The only thing that I was attempting to point out is that the information for the upcoming Board Meetings, had been posted earlier, before your response to "justfacts".
To bring light to a way of promoting these meetings to a wider group in this community is what I think was trying to be promoted.
It would be a good idea for the postings concerning meetings and discussions be mutually posted or shared amongst these two forums and hopefully the page that the Plainedge Parents have for doing all the fund raising and the Library, and any other way we can extend the information getting out to those in this community.
Why can't we use EVERY way at this communities disposal to relay information about the meeting dates? The community should be prepared with questions that they have, and the Superintendent should have his questions for us as what we expect for the students and at what price. (not ONLY financial) With this also, the Board should be asking from the community and Dr. Richman how to work this out together.
The idea that "concerned" has been trying to resurrect about different committees seems to be a most viable one. Maybe at one time the people in this community had difficulty in finding the proper time to attend, but I think we have gotten to another stage in time here. Even if some people cannot make it to a committee meeting that they would like to contribute to, I think that with the "tech" available to many of us would be able to get information out to a larger group and have more people included as with email responses, polls, ICQ, Instant Messaging, etc,...
IMHO.........

Frawgg:
So, would you still believe that someone that is more senior (late 50's/early 60's) in age with grown children (over 18) and a successful career and very savvy in, say, business management, law or accounting may not be a wise choice to sit on the board because that person doesn't have any children in schoool (anymore)?

To set prerequisites to run for an elected seat, sets voting rights back to when there were only rights for a select few. We have come a long way to where we are today having accomplished the right to vote for ALL and the right to run for office for ALL! Anything other than this would be discrimination and all those who stood up to be counted worthy would have fought, died and stood for nought. If one is eligible to vote, then one is eligible to run for office and let the people decide. Are we to garner the votes of all eligible voters but not allow all eligible voters to run for office?

Go Plainedge:
I should amend my statement to "people who have never had children in our schools"
I think that if a person is going to take on the responsibility of making decisions that affect what educational and extracurricular programs & services are offered to students, they should have some first hand experience of having children in the schools. There are no doubt many people who have experience in some particular area that could be an asset to a school board, but I think having children in school and being a homeowner gives you a broader perspective and understanding of how the decisions affect all the stakeholders. Again, just an opinion - I am fully aware of the current eligibility requirements.

You know, I could digress about the qualifications of past and present board members. But that wouldn't serve this board or its members in a positive manner.
My opinion....it's all about marketing, advertising and popularity. It seems like the person with the largest signs displayed, fliers distributed, leaflets handed out and "most popular" wins. Not many people take the time research these candidates and really determine how well they will serve the community based on the candidates work experience, knowledge and (quite frankly) chutzpah.

Again, this is an area I have mentioned before that the BOE must address. Now is the time to change the way the meet the candidates night run. Look at poor Pat Zinke. Because she wasn't running against anyone, she couldn't even speak. This needs to be revamped. Maybe this should be brought up as well at the community meeting in November.
