....Quite honestly, passing this budget is far more important that who wins this election....IMHO. Joe, Personally, I think both the budget AND who gets elected to the BOE this year are equally important. Both issues will decide what direction this district goes in. The candidates will have a three year effect on us and our future.

Been busy & just got back to reading these. Who really cares who is handing out flyers. Most people don't even look at them anyhow and if they want to be in compliance all they have to do is hand them out off school grounds(across the street). We're losing sight of the real issue here. GETTING IT PASSED. All this nonsense about who read what email and who hands out what is ridiculous. Please, let's all be adults and pass this budget.

GO, I'll disagree with that !!!!
If the budget doesn't pass, you better have sold your house by 9:59 pm on 5/16, otherwise it won't be worth anything!!!

P-edgewatcher - Thanks for the kind words.
Getitpassed - I agree 100 %....Anything that can create a divide in this community needs to take a back seat until May 17th. We need to stay unified on the VOTE YES team and finish this off....
We are 1st and Ten inside the 20 yard Line....Let's get the Red Zone Offense on the field and get this budget passed.....

GO, I'll disagree with that !!!! If the budget doesn't pass, you better have sold your house by 9:59 pm on 5/16, otherwise it won't be worth anything!!! That's what makes this message board so great. We can all disagree with eachother and state our own opinions. I like to look at scenarios for the short and long term effect. What good is a budget this year, if the following 3 years we have three wrong BOE members to work with? That's why we're in this predicament to begin with. As far as the homes being worth nothing if the budget fails, I think that's a bit extreme. But, again, you're entitled to your opinion. So if the budget fails, are you moving? Or, is you're house up for sale now, just in case?

Sorry about that folks! If anyone took my "Tongue-in-cheek" remark seriously (about letting the C_P_R group hand out flyers because the "others guys" did it!) I apologize. My position is, and always will be - if it's not right to do - it's not right to do! Just because I believe my intentions are better than "that other guy", or my cause more righteous, doesn't change a wrong action into a right one! There is nothing superior about me or mine as compared to anyone else. In my personal view: As to which is most important to succeed, the vote YES on the Budget or getting Board candidates of choice elected, I am reminded that, despite Richman's desires to the contrary, there can be a second Budget vote - we have but one vote for the candidates. The second Budget vote would have to occur: It can not be denied! This community would not let a Board force the same budget down its throat again for the second year - nor would it let the BOE declare a Contingency budget from just one vote! Not after last year's fiasco - and not with the presently altered Board. There are at least two major cost elements that could be cut in a second budget - if the community is strong enough to demand it and the BOE courageous enough to do them - FREEZE all Administration Raises and Bonuses (saving about $600,000) and use the interest earned from the TAN note moneys (about $335,000) to drop money from the Capital spending increase. There are no contract "automatic raises" items to worry about! Richman has breeched his contract terms enough to warrent more than just a salary and bonus freeze! [/i] These cuts come from Administration and Capital parts of the Budget - and not one penny from the Children's part! There is no need to touch children's programs to provide a second budget - except if community inattention and BOE perversity permits it! That reduced second budget would pass. It's enough of a reduction to accept for a second budget - but not enough for the typical person to hold out for by saying no to the first budget. (Less than $150 per house for the year - not counting the costs incurred with a second budget and all the extra acrimony and the lost time that goes along with it) But with the Board member selection - we have but one shot at it - and it is the new Board that will give us Budgets for next year and all the years after that - these will be sensible budgets to pass at the first shot. Let's face the truth - the cause of the past (and any present) Budget defects and problems is the Board's free acceptance of the Administrator's flawed Budgets - that is the important item to fix by changing the Board's character. Remember - Mallow is just about out and Dick is totally gone and more BOE members are responding to the community inputs. This has been the fact since Mr. Dick left in October and the existing and newly appointed members have been challenging the Administration. More are jumping on the bandwagon!Ed. Let's get the budget passed - but first make sure we fix the cause of the Budget problems forever! Get a BOE that tells the Administration what to do - rather than the other way around as it has been lately! Remember! Success in either task does not conflict with the other!

Good evening Facts, Yes there can be a second vote. But do you want to roll the dice? Regardless of who is elected there is no gaurantee that all postions and slates will remain the same or that new alliances will or won't be formed. My Choice of Plainedge Residents that I would like to see in office has been made clear. That being said I believe that it is imperative that the Budget be passed the first time out. I, for one, do not want to be at the school again if the budget goes down, nor do I want to read about it in Newsday. The election will be more hotly contested the closer WE get to May 16. To the current alphabet soup of Plainedge politics I would like to add 4 more letters: PTBF. PASS THE BUDGET FIRST. The candidates will be sorted out. The process will continue. BUT ........PTBF!

Ed - I must say that would be an incredibly risky game of chicken that I for one would not like to encounter. We already played chicken with the Admin last year and the KIDS lost...Most of us who post on this site participated in the budget process this year. Our time for input was back in April & March....Now is the time we MUST push forward with the budget that we helped create. I understand your logic Ed....But it's incredibly risky IMHO.
Like I said earlier...Lets get the RED ZONE offense on the field....
Devils - I agree PTBF.

First and ten inside the twenty, start of the fourth quarter, we go for the Touchdown....not the field goal. Plan "b" is not an alternative , hammer down from here on in its PTBF!
But I like the football analogy from a baseball guy, gopybl!

I agree Gopybl, using the 2nd vote as an out is not desirable. We would not have the time to open up and renegotiate contracts, so who would be hurt??? of course the kids, across the board would lose programs.
This budget MUST pass, and Pass on the first VOTE....!

Devils - OK, here is my baseball analogy then....We are at Yankee stadium...Its the ninth inning....we are up by a run.....and they just announced Mariano is coming into the game with no outs....and with "Enter the Sandman" playing in the background....
There is no room for error....we can not afford to play Chicken with the Admin again like last year....We have to keep the pressure on so that this budget passes the first time on May 16th. If the budget doesn't pass, the Admin is gonna pull more programs away from the kids on the budget to get it to a point until it passes. They will not voluntarily offer up their bonus' and raises. Last year is a perfect example. These people get paid whether we pass the budget or not.....Lets not go down that road AGAIN.

Gopybl - You are correct...Dr Richman will still receive all his Bonus' and raises whether we pass the budget or not. His kids will not be impacted....that's for sure. Also, I love "Enter the Sandman". Also, What's up with the disclaimer man? Everyone knows you speak your mind.
Mr Facts - I have heard emails were sent yesterday by "JR" claiming that the sidewalks in front of the School are public Domain and can be used for campaigning purpopses as long as your progress to the school is unimpeded....He claims that this is coming from the school attorney's....Is this accurate? I bet you if we were protesting on the sidewalks calling for his resignation, they would very quickly not be public domain...We would probably have Nassau Counties Finest on the sidewalks instead.
